Profiling of an apostate
by joe134cd ini must admit when i was in, the idea i had of an apostate, was an angry bitter person who would picket out side a convention.
i was looking on jwservey and found on the respondents to a servey that 54% were either active members or fading members.
this made me wonder is the organisation underestimating the extent of apostasy.

Well, according to my wife, I am an apostate even though I have never been a Jehovah's Witness. I am okay with that label as I probably am an apostate of some kind. Jgnat, good point, the Watchtower certainly has labels for various people don't they.

How often do you see the Witnesses out on the ministry?
by rory-ks ini only ask because i hardly ever see them out on the ministry.
it is a very rare sighting to spot them actively engaged in the house to house ministry.
or out on the street work, in the marketplace, etc.. the other reason i ask is because they are constantly pictured as being on the preaching work.

I only saw them once in all the years I have lived in Hampton Roads in our neighborhood, but we have lived in apartments every year until last year. They came once during memorial season and left an invitation. I understand witnesses will not canvas neighborhoods that do not permit soliciting (like all the apartment complexes we lived in prior). Of course, that does not stop members of the Potter's House churches.

Sodomite resurrection flip-flops -- recent WT confession?
by FatFreek 2005 inwithin the last few years i understand watchtower has issued a concession (no apology) of minor proportion.
they don't admit to the avalanche of some 8 sequential positions (yes, no, yes, no, ...) of, "will the sodomites receive a resurrection?".
i think they admit to about three of them.

In one word... Survival.
As in the case of any organization, survival is paramount, nothing else matters. Change the doctrine, lose a few 'sheep', the individual doesn't matter, Jehovah's organization must be vindicated.

My Explanation of Why They Got it Wrong About Blood Using Only the NWT
by cofty in10 " any israelite or any alien living among them who eats any bloodi will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from his people.
12 therefore i say to the israelites, "none of you may eat blood, nor may an alien living among you eat blood.
15 'anyone, whether native-born or alien, who eats anything found dead or torn by wild animals must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be ceremonially unclean till evening; then he will be clean.

Bill Nye/Ken Ham Creation-Evolution Debate Here: V

Bill Nye mentioned Danville, Virginia USA during the debate. Small world.
On another note, I did not find the debate too informative and Bill missed opportunities to point out contradictions in the Bible and even contradictions in Ham's arguments. At one point Ham mention a sediment of rock that encased some organic material (wood if I remember correctly). He stated that the organic material was 40,000 years old and the rock was much older according to science. Bill's response was that the rock fell on top of the wood. Why did not Bill just say, "Well, both of them are much older than what you claim the Earth is!"
It does not matter anyway as those who agree with Ham will think he won the debate and those who agree with Bill Nye will think he won the debate. Just like every other publicized creation vs evolution / theist vs atheist debate.

What If the Soul Sleeping Doctrine is False?
by Cold Steel inwhen god breathed life into adam, adam became a living soul.
moments before he had been only a concept...an idea; a lump of clay if youre a literalist.
now he was a complex living and breathing being.

He sticks his fingers in his ears, sings lalalalala, and types lots of text that includes the oxymoron "mormon scholars...".
What, no 'celebrated' mormon scholars?! At least the WT has is celebrated WT scholars. Well according to scholar.

What do Baptists believe?
by quellycatface ini'm thinking about going to church again because i'm really interested in god (today)!!.
sometimes i'm so confused and feel like there is no god, other days i do and want to try and get to know him.. i guess i'm scared because of all the bs that went on in the kh.. there is a local baptist church near me that seems nice.
i'm in the uk.

Baptists are varied in their beliefs so it is difficult to nail down one particular set of doctrines. But, most baptist churches I attended believe in believer's baptism (that is only people who accept Christ can get baptized and not infant baptism), some believe in the gift of tongues but most do not, baptism by immersion as opposed to sprinkling, the Holy Trinity (though most cannot explain it), Sola Scriptura (the Bible as final authority), Sola Christus (Christ is the only way), Heaven, and Hell.
Beyond that, it tends to vary on other things. Some do not support women pastors while others do for example. The Independent Baptists and the Independent Fundamental Baptists tend to be downright wonky as they believe in a young earth (less than 10,000 years old), the KJV as the only correct translation, and favor a very 19th century type "Little House on the Prarie" type of lifestyle.

Recently converted JW 15 yr old girl runs away from home...(news)
by EndofMysteries inhttp://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/chilliwack-family-blames-rcmp-for-failing-to-return-their-daughter-1.2501557.
a chilliwack, b.c., family is furious with the rcmp for failing to return their 15-year-old daughter after police found the runaway teen at a downtown vancouver hotel.. jeff wier and candis mccarville-wier are the legal guardians for cassidy mccarville; candis is also her biological mother.
the teen became a jehovahs witness two years ago but her parents are not followers, and that has been a point of strife between cassidy and her parents.. candis says her daughter has taken the religion too far preaching door to door instead of doing her school work.

Funny, I remember being sucked into my church because I wanted to be a good person and believed church going people were of a higher calibre than regular people. Especially my family since they use to have drinking parties when I was little and I wanted to 'rise above' that so to say. My parents were cool with my church going activities and a good thing too.
We had a good relationship and I was able to trust them, even when they encouraged me to leave the church because I never felt I was measuring up for God. Many similarities I saw between the witnesses and the IFBs that I began feeling those same bad feelings when I began attending the meetings with my wife. Now I know why, they're both cults.
