Would like to make new friends all over again

hi, i'm cathy.

am new to the site; some of you know me by now.

i have been dfd since 1997 and without many friends since then and felt quite lost as im sure many of you know the feeling.

Good to see you here Cathy .... we met last night in the chat room. I am from Brisbane, in the state of Queensland, Australia.

What have you been doing with yourself this last 4 years since you left? Have you taken up a hobby or joined a club or started to work or gone back to school etc?

It is always a good idea to get out and do something you really like doing and meet others from different backgrounds at the same time. If you have ever wanted to do a hobby this is the time to start .... same with study .... the whole world is your oyster now.

Broaden your horizons. Join toastmasters and learn to speak in public on subjects other that the bible. My Aunt who was in the borg for 40 years did just that at the grand age of 72 and has been having a ball. She said it was a challenge to talk about something different, but now she is comfortable everywhere again.

Quite a few here are no back in school getting their HS Diploma or going through college and a few have just graduated.

There is nothing to stop you now except yourself so go for it Cathy ....

if religion is, as marx said, the opium of the people, do the borg just have theirs at a better grade than most religions?

is that why it is so hard for people to "kick the habit"?

is that why we feel so strongly about the borg - reformed druggies being the most outspoken and all that?

I attended the meeting tonight.....

i went to the meeting tonight to check out things in the local congregation.

this spiritual paradise is showing a few cracks.

when i arrived about ten minutes before the meeting started, i felt like a ghost.

Yes, we withstand the traumas Danny, but we don't always recover so well. I was already in my 40's before I really was able to put things in perspective and recover from a lifetime of abuse.

Then there is my daughter, raised by a broken mum, in the WTS for most of her young life, and molested by one of the brothers who had been protected by the elders. Later in life a nice therapist was able to use that and end having her believe that she has been probably abused by all her family and eventually she believed she had been satanically ritually abused as well.

My foster daughter (been with us most of her life) is 30 now ..... and she is only just recovering from those early years of trauma and abuse. It has taken 18 years of our input of lots of TLC for her to reach this point. We can see how far she has come by the way she loves and tends her 18 month old son ..... her confidence now is amazing compared to what she was when she came to us .... but it has been a lot of input to get this far .....

Danny, these children recover only if they are helped through it by caring, sensitive adults who make them feel empowered and well loved ..... but how often does that happen.

Definitely not within the borg!!!!!!!!!

Loki, it isn't just the WTS that people have problems throwing off ... it is any totalitarian type regime. This type of religion is truly detrimental to the individual's ability to become what they can be.

Have a quick look at my web page at the first three directories and you will see what I mean about this. That is the 'opium of the people".

A belief that leaves you free to discover your full potential and allows you to think things through for yourself is the healthiest place to be. Many don't realize that even Christianity was originally like that ..... the only precepts given by Jesus were to love God with your whole heart, mind and body and love your neighbour as yourself. One didn't have t o recite doctrine or follow certain set rules, only to love our brethren to the degree that we would not do anything that would hurt them.

I often recommend this to people who have been in some of the charismania churches, because they are really adept at using the hypnotic affect of hours of singing the same chorus ....

It applies to the borg too because they get you with monotone, boring lectures that have you nodding off within minutes or tuning out making yourslf even more vulnerable to their rhetorick.

The JDubs and Amway--a match made in hell......

there are many perceptive posters here who have picked up on the mlm amway/jdub connection.. however, there are some who are not familiar with what we are talking about.

i thought for them it would be nice to list some similarities between the two organizations.. btw, amway has a new line of business, they're calling it quixtar.

so if you get approached for this, be aware it's just amway.
