  Serena thanks "Jehovah" after US Open...

  serena williams, after winning the us open women's tennis championship tonight, thanked "jehovah" for blessing her family.

  in the background were numerous us flags, and of course, prior to the match, the williams sisters were there and standing while various patriotic songs were played (oh, that's right....they were already standing since they had to walk out onto the court....guess that's okay).

  while watching all that i could not help but think of all the jw youths who have been told that they could not particicpate in organized sports at school or otherwise.

  Thanks Stinky - yes, the Williams sisters were indeed raised as JWs.

  My point was not to condemn the Williams girls for standing or being there, but rather the fact that so many other JW kids will never even have that chance. I was a bit sarcastic in the first paragraph of my post - but the again, these sisters once posed in Sports Illustrated with a US flag draped across their bodies. Is that wrong? Technically, no, but it sure looked odd for people who profess to serve "Jehovah". And I can't help but think that there are many JWs out there who would receive strong "counsel" against doing exactly what the Williams girls do or have done in the past.

  Kaethra - what you mentioned about being looked down upon for pursuing "post-secondary" education is very sad.

I just wonder what they, and their parents, might be thinking as they watch the Williams girls attain to the highest level of participation and success in the sport of tennis - and that is what bothers me when I watch these sisters compete. I think it's fine that they do so and that they are achieving great success (and making some nice $$$, $450,000 for Venus, $900,000 for Serena) but I am always bothered by the thought of all those Witness youths who never had a chance to do the same.

  Don't buy CD's from supermarkets.Please.

  for music lovers everywhere.. don't buy cd's from supermarkets.please.thats an order!.

  there just been a report in britian that supermarkets are increasing their share of the recorded music market by selling cheap cd's.. why is this bad news?surly if you can get a cd from tescos for a tenner instead of 15 quid this is good?noooooooooooooooooo.. i say that again , no.. lets look at it.supermarkets can sell cd's and other items cheap because they make a profit on the other goods you buy.they use the offer of cheap cd's to entice you into their store.they only sell chart cd's otherwise they will make a loss on more obscure music which won't sell in bulk.. if you love music and wish to buy music or listen to good new music in the years to come, you are shooting yourself in the foot if you buy your music from supermarkets at a lower price.it is a false ecomony.this is why.when you hear a piece of music you like in a few years time which is not chart music and go to you local independant or specialist music store you will see a big sign on the door ,closed.they will have shut down because lack of sales when all their customers went to the cheapo market ment they could no longer survive.. they had to charge more for music becausea.it was the only thing they sellb.they stocked all types of music and would not make money on some bands and would make up for it with more popular bands.cthey could get the music you wanted on special order if they didn't have what you were looking ford.they had knowledge of music and bands which was readily available to you if needed.and a good few other things.. you are not saving anything if you buy cheap.if you like music you need to support the peole who want to supply it,and offer quality, which in the case of music includes choice, not just marketed corporate crap, not those in it for a quick buck.they need to charge more but have a far greater range of product, one which a supermarket will never have,ever.. you have been warned.

  Dream of Going Back

  i awoke from sleep about a half hour ago from a dream in which i returned to the witnesses.

  i had become so upset from losing my family and friends that i decided to return and seek reinstatement even though secretly in my heart i did not believe (i was trying to fool the elders).. i awoke from the dream with illusions of actually following through with this idea.

  it took me about 5 minutes to arrive at reality.

  My mom was reinstated over a decade ago after I followed the advice of an elder and did pretty much the same thing as the August KM suggests (I was "reaching out" and so I was in major "suck up" mode) My mom hardly ever attended meetings after her reinstatement and later told me that the only reason she went back was because she was afraid to lose me as a son.

  As professor indicates, what kind of motivation is that? It is nothing more than arm-twisting, and so many df'd people who do come back end up doing little or nothing jw-wise after that, because all they crave and need as normal humans is to have contact with their friends and family....that's why they return; seldom is love for "Jehovah" or the jw religion a motivating factor. Even from the jw standpoint, can't God, who reads hearts, see through all that anyway? What's the point then?

  Is it possible to fall out of love....and married?

  i would like to know what your opinions are and i would really appreciate some input.. i have been re-married for two years, but along the way there has been some deep hurts, although no infidelity.

  he claims that he loves me, but i do not feel the same way for him as i once did.

  i was married to a verbally abusive husband for 11 yrs, and i'm wondering if maybe i just wasn't ready to remarry so soon, and the hurt my current husband has caused has rubbed some old wounds alittle too often.. he has done some emotionally hurtful things to me in which i don't really care to go further on right now, and this has caused me to distant myself from him.

  I did not notice any mention of marriage counseling. Have you tried that? Would you be willing to? Would your husband be willing to? Might your husband be willing to accept counseling that could lead to some change in the way he treats you?

  Your situation is obviously complex, as any long-term relationship is. I've been married for quite a while, and yet it's hard for me to give advice here because situations differ greatly. I wish you all the best!

  not content with being appreciative of the r&f's attendance at the meetings, the borgmeisters want them there early!

  just being there isn't nearly so good as being early.

  oh no, true christians are evident by their being early for the meetings.

  I agree that, especially for people in difficult circumstances, for example those with children or elderly in the family, or who work long hours, this type of "admonition" can be stressful. And who doesn't have some circumstance that makes getting there early, or even at all, very difficult?

  In the congregation I was in, we had local needs talks on this on a number of occasions. In fact, we had the attendants check to see how many were late, and the figure was given as 20-25 %. I feel that taking such 'tabulations' and then talking about them from the platform was rude and insensitive to those who carry a heavy burden and do all they can just to arrive at the meetings at all.

  Reading Alan F's essays (over at R. Watters site) on the "Creation" book was a real eye-opener for me. If memory serves, he does discuss Hitching's credentials (or better yet, lack therof) quite thoroughly.

  i always did wonder about this, i mean, what function do they have and further, if, just supposing that we are made in the image of god, does god himself have the equivalent of nipples?

  LB, now that you are "out" I salute your courage!

  All I can say is, if vivamus (yum) or heaven want to stimulate male nipples, why complain? As elsewhere said earlier after quoting vivamus: "I think we have a winner!". I agree!
