by dgp inthe wtbts was founded in america and has a strong american component to it.
it is an authoritarian organization, and, as you people know, all real decision making is left to the governing body, whose members seem to be mostly white americans, or at least have been mostly white americans or white people of english descent.
it doesn't seem to me that the members from other countries do anything but obey the commands from brooklyn.

Macchiavelli, Pizarro and the Watchtower
by dgp inon this forum one often reads about what could cause the demise of the watchtower.
for example, we see that people think a schism would do it, or the internet, or the fact that worldlies have more information, or the fact that they have had to change their teachings only too often.
but i think we don't always have a look of what kind of power structure the watchtower is, from the point of view of an attacker.

by dgp inin another thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/social/family/189023/1/interfaith-marraiges-and-children), balsam wrote this:.
...challenging her concepts, especially challenging the words like "unbeliever", or "worldly person", you need to point out to your wife those are words used to try and put a division between jw's and other christians or people of other faiths.... i know that jehovah's witnesses are told not to befriend (much less marry) people of different religious faiths, or no religious faiths at all.
but the people in the wts can but realize that not everyone outside is bad, and not everyone inside is good.

by dgp ini'm reading "the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses", by heather and gary botting.
in chapter 7, the authors argue that the wtbts needs a stream of converts if it wants to avoid becoming an established religion.
they also argue that disfellowshipping serves the purpose of maintaining "unity at all costs".
