  can spirituality replace religion?

  i was watching cnn, an d they asked this question and this one lady called in and claimed she wasn't raised in a religious household.

  but she remembered when she was in elementary school that this jw girl asked her if she was spritual she said no, then the jw told her she would go to hell.

  but you can't be religious without being spiritual.

  With all due respect I completely disagree with this statement. I think Religion is the biggest obstical in the way of spirituality. We see people all the time (including in the jw religion) who are very good at the religion but don't have an ounce of spirituality in them.

  To me spirituality is being connected to a Source, whatever you call that, in a way that makes you still, at peace, full of love and the right motive, encourages you to be at peace with the earth and plants and animals, AND does not allow you to carry an egoic title or egoically try to change other people. Even "spirituality" is just a word, you really can't name it.

  I have ZERO fear of death now...

  but do flukkin hate the thought of old age and what may come with it.....the only people who really know what life after death may be....they aint talkin!!

  !.......so it is a big adventure i look forward too.....but not the droolin and diapers......oompa.

  I don't fear death, but I don't want to die, and I don't even have a bad feeling about growing old, as long as I can be the healthiest and happiest I can be.

  there is a fundamental question facing christian sects in america, an ideological distinction that cleaves the many churches into two different camps: is it better to fit the church and christianity to the world, thus keeping the faith relevant, or is it better to mold the world to the faith?

  put more bluntly, whose vision of the future of christianity is correct: the conservative, literal baptists or the modern, liberal episcopalians?

  Fantastic article Leaving.

  PSac, I express this everytime "Christianity" comes up: As long as you carry the title "Christian" then your already missing the point of Jesus words and life! Christians can be "true Christians" because Christianity is man made. But "Christians" are NOT true followers of Christ. Believe me when you and others really get the point of Jesus you'll drop the title like a hot potatoe!

  Help for children to think and reason for themselves

  i think that i recently saw a post where someome made a referrence to a book or books specifically dealing with teaching children to think for themselves.

  My daughter read The Secret To Teen Power. To be fair I haven't' read it, but she really liked it and put into practice some of the ideas and has noticed a change in her little life. It teaches that kids can have and do anything they choose which I love considering the WTS teaches just the opposite!

  I fully believe in the power of intuition. I believe every living thing has it. The reason it makes since to me is because it's all encompassing. No "knowledge" on earth today can say that. If we just be still long enough to listen it works. Knowledge has it's place of course but I think intuition was here first. Just my two cents.

  My 13 year old daughter read The Secret for Teens and really liked it. It teaches them to listen to their intuition on matters among other stuff.

  for getting ready for all of those meetings and doing their best to study before hand and comment.

  for volunteering to help the elderly and others with yard work and cooking and babysitting.

  GL, yes my kids have both seen this. John Doe you crack me up. Nice of you to say that Scott and Loz, that is so wonderful!

  I have to say since that letter to, I don't know if my kids "pray" or even if we all believe in a "God". But I tell them as long as their motives about everything come from a loving heart, then they are following a loving Source. That's all I care about.

  Wow thanks gals. I'm happy to report my kids are fantastic. It has been quite interesting to see how much they have expanded their horizons about what is possible for them in the world now. I tell them all the time now, they can absolutely pursue anything they want to. It's been amazing how far we've come in such a short time

  i feel like woody allen in the 1973 movie "the sleeper".

  i leave in 1995, wake up 15 yrs later to see what has been going on in the jw religion and find out it is completely different from what i left.

  i started a thread about beards, because i wanted to know how the modern day beard and goatee fad went over in the kh's.. now i'm curious about the tattoo, piercings and short or shaved hair look.

  That's funny crapola! And why do they call the tattoo on the lower back a "tramp stamp?" That's why I wont get mine there! And Sooner, what does it stand for?
