just a thought: With no printery, why do they need 280 people?
I mean, there's going to be a legal desk (and it could be outsourced to bethelites who work from home) and some filing cabinets?
chelmsford looks to have much less work than in mill hill complex, if gb spirit guided why did they allow massive plans for new site when such significant changes must have been in discussion, planning , or contemplation.
knee jerk reaction to things looks to indicate someone or more on gb has instituted changes almost overnight.
my dog plans his day better, get up, walk, sleep, eat, walk some more, eat some more, and sleep again.

Wifi: holy cow! Do you got any idea about the initially planer capacity?
i remember they did a feature on chelmsford on jw tv just before the reports of layoffs last year. Could be interesting to compare against
i was stalking to a jw today about her recent experience on the carts and with being a jw generally.
until this conversation i considered the carts as just an ineffective preaching method and a harmless waste of time.
but now i wonder if the effect of the carts might be to produce noticeable decline in jw numbers.
Terry:
In the old days (pre-Internet) witnessing was like gunslinging where you stood at the door and shot it out and watched the unindoctrinated bodies fall in a crumpled heap on the doorsill.
Post-internet, however, a conversation with another human being is likely to be more of a death trap for the JW because Ex-JW's have wallpapered with FACTS every search engine pitstop there is.
This is exactly my thinking. Going to someones door with a message is something I can easily see appeal to a person especially when he or she is convinced of the message... like you are easily the only religion around that really does that on a large scale. Standing still on a street with a cart and watch people walk by... you can just look around and next to you there is the hara krishna, the newspaper salesguy, the greenpeace or the other people who flag down people in the street and they are likely doing a much more active job than you.
i don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.
they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.
but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.
I don't see this happening. I simply think the current GB is too scared to change anything of significance and all their recent changes are motivated by need rather than a desire to *do* something.. like you get the illogical patchwork "fix" that is the overlapping generation doctrine.
That said you never now. I wouldn't have thought I would have seen anything but steady growth in the next decades and certainly not something like the current selloff. It remains to be seen if the sell-offs and reductions solved their money problems but if they didn't, they might panic.
as i am watching this video about changes at bethel, the speaker said, "aren't we glad the faithful and discrete slave continues to make adjustments when necessary.
what about this change?
"finally, we examined why jesus’ arrival to appoint the faithful slave over all his belongings did not occur in 1919 but will take place during the great tribulation" that is from this online watchtower article last paragraph: https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/w20130715/jesus-prophecy-last-days/ .
Graybeard: from what i gather they think they are the fds they just havent been appointed yet over everything. Like you might be a doctor and then get promoted to head of department.
there have been very informative threads on presentations and audience reactions ("thrilled", "emotional") at this summer's regional conventions (formerly district conventions) but little on actual attendance numbers and numbers baptized.
.
or could i be directed to current threads discussing these aspects - i searched but found nothing.
Can we make a google doc and perhaps share it on reddit? Macbeth something John cedars would be interested in
in response to the 37 threads in my evolution is a fact series - see bottom of op for links - perry posted a link to an article "44 reasons why evolution isn't true".. i offered him a challenge on the thread and by pm.
predictably he is totally ignoring it, so i am offering the challenge to any evolution-denier who thinks they have evidence to support their position.. please present one specific piece of evidence for creationism.. my task will be to refute it with evidence within 24 hours.. then i will present one piece of evidence for evolution and your challenge will be the same.. all posts must be as succinct as reasonably possible.
entirely in your own words, without copy-paste, videos or links.. please post your interest to take part and we will set it up before the first actual post in the exchange.
I got one: if we,evolved over billions of years of survival of the fittest, how do you account for Stephen lett?
can you allay my suspicions of wt associated activity?.
during the last 3 to 4 co visits, i noticed a predeliction on the part of the ladt few co's for taking photos at fs meetings and photos of cong at end of visit.
i'm beginning to suspect that such is not because the co's have a newly found socially engaging disposition (being cool).
Are you in the us?
on reddit, a poster mentioned a new Berthel department to gather info on people including demographics and monetary situation. You are the second person to subsequently mention info gathering..
again, i'm a decade removed from the faith.
i'm catching up now, and can't believe what i'm seeing.. i get that jw leadership faced a dilemma.
there is no intellectual apparatus within the faith.
oldskool:
Do kingdom halls have screens now? Or televisions?
You have been out for a long time :-D.
Screens, projectors, etc. is installed in halls in western countries. Instead of having small demonstrations at the wednesday meeting they now show videos. Less audience input...
all convention videos in english and all talk outlines for download.

Open mind: could be to indicate it happened many years ago, to show she must be shunned for years for it to work
