The BBC produces some of the best programming in the world. Of course the news has a bias - every news source does.
Is the bias in this case pro or anti-English?
I can understand why many would find that kind of bias upsetting, especially in a tax-financed news organization.

Cutbacks
by pepperheart inwhat other cut backs do you think will be coming or might be coming these next few years for the borg ?.

I am thinking an additional cut in the number of printed pages is on the cards. Perhaps merging awake/public WT or making one of them "online-only".

2017 Yearbook released
by bohm ini saw this on reddit:.
https://www.reddit.com/r/exjw/comments/5mlgsm/2017_yearbook_of_jehovahs_witnesses/.
overall the numbers are better than last year (1.8% growth compared to 1.5% last year -- as i predicted ;-) ) with an increase in all major figures including 1300 more congregations (i assume this is not physical kingdom halls?).

berrygerry: There are a few issues with your table. Check out the Japan figures as an example.

SBF: I think you have me convinced on the number of congregations, but it is still a pity it does not accurately reflect how many physical kingdom halls there are as this is the really interesting number.

SBF: I agree with the DRC numbers being odd. I don't think you can have natural growth of 22% in such a large country so I am assuming it is some kind of migration event or a change in legal standings of the WTS.
Regarding "congregations", isn't it a problem that this number includes(?) language congregations and isn't counting the number of buildings?

Two interesting numbers:
During the 2016 service year, Jehovah’s Witnesses spent over $213 million in caring for special pioneers, missionaries, and circuit overseers in their field service assignments. Worldwide, a total of 19,818 ordained ministers staff the branch facilities
During the 2015 service year, Jehovah’s Witnesses spent over $236 million in caring for special pioneers, missionaries, and traveling overseers in their field service assignments. Worldwide, a total of 26,011 ordained ministers staff the branch facilities.

No surprise, but the growth seems to predominantly happen in Africa and South America, with a LOT of zero % growth in Europe and a slight contraction in the US/Canada. Even Mexico is only growing with 1%...
For instance, the largest growth happened in the republic of Congo with almost 38'000 publishers joining the borg in that country alone (Could this be due to migration?)

But but but: Memorial partakers grew by almost 3000 to 18000 and a (slight) DECREASE in average publishers in the US. Western Europe to appears to be very flat.

6 New Kingdom Halls Built In The US This Year
by James Jack inon our local needs part tonight, the elder (on the local ldc), conducting the part, said he just got back from a meeting in memphis tn with members from the us branch rdc conducting the meeting.
they mentioned that only 6 new kingdom halls and 2 major re-models were completed in 2016.
"it may seem like a small accomplishment, considering under the old rbc arrangement there was some 700 projects on the average each year being done", "but, this is going 5-10 years of training to kick this new program into optima production".
-
bohm
SIX?!. If that is true that would be amazing as it would certainly mean the total number of halls is falling rapidly given just the usual rate of sell-offs.
