Excellent Conversation At Literature Trolley
by cofty inyesterday my wife and i enjoyed one of our regular days out at edinburgh - movie, lunch, walk, meal etc.. in the late afternoon while mrs cofty went shopping i had an hour at the excellent museum of scotland and arranged to meet up outside the national gallery on princes street.
on my way back i saw the jw trolley was at the usual spot on the royal mile.
there was an older man and a young woman standing well back trying hard to look inconspicuous.

It's what didn't happen!.
Last fall when we got the reports about the world-wide money problems one of the big news was the Chelmsford was temporarily halted. I think the current word is that construction is happening albeit slowly and the project has been scaled back dramatically. IIRC there was a big JWTV thing on Chelmsford before the money news broke which (i think!) included models of the finished project. I hope someone will be able to revisit and compare those with the finished project eventually.

Quite an amazing conversation, I am very impressed how you were able to turn it into a personal conversation on your own views of the organization. It is a damn good idea to hammer on the cartoons. If they don't sit 100% well with him, he is going to have you in the back of his .every.damn.time. they play one of those at an assembly or meeting.
I have almost been hoping to talk with some witness, however they seem to never be around where I live for the past few years.
A thing I might have done differently than you would be that the comment the books were written by men would be too good to let pass. I think an important followup is "So you say we cannot trust something that is written by men?" with the intention of immediately moving on to ask who wrote the literature he is offering and then go on to question him when one can trust something and when one cannot trust it.. the fundamental hypocrisy of rejecting evolution without having studied it is I think the biggest weakness of most JWs.
Are you familiar with Anthony Magnaboscos youtube chanel?

June 2016 WT (study edition) Bashing Higher Education....AGAIN!

"this means that we need to examine our heart constantly to see if it is being enticed by worldly entertainment, associations, and styles of dress and grooming.

Perhaps it's just as much about discouraging higher education as it is to manage regret in people who might have opted out of getting it earlier in their life. -

Will the Borg ever do what the WCG did?
by tornapart inwhilst not endorsing any of the beliefs or doctrines of this group i found it really interesting that once herbert armstrong died it had a major overhaul of it's beliefs and practices (very similar in a cultish way to jws).
apologising for it's errors and putting things right.
it became less judgemental, more encompassing of other christian faiths.

I think they look at WCG and think: Lightweights. -

Just when it is taken out of context like that, the idea that obtaining "great things" is BAD is really odd. Like, what else should people try to obtain? Small things? Really shitty things?

JW Chef Refuses to Cook Black Pudding
by cofty insainsbury's has been forced to apologise after its jehovah's witness chef refused to serve a customer black pudding with his full english breakfast.alan mackay was stunned when he was told he could not enjoy the staple, made up of animal fat, blood and oatmeal, with his meal at the branch in arnold, nottingham.after receiving his incomplete dish the former police officer was told the black pudding would not be served because it was against the religious beliefs of the chef to do so....

Have any of you guys thought the chef was simply objecting on culinary grounds because she thought the delicious dish of black pudding was best served uncooked?
