...so when the ebola scare quitly dies out in a few months, this will once and for all disconfirm the "hidden messages in tv shows" crap? Right?
Or is it more like it will again and again immune to disconfirming evidence like a religious belief..
hey guys.
there has been a ton of illuminati hollywood mind control pre-programming about this virus outbreak before it actually happened.

I am waaaay to curious for this thread..
why not just mail the radio show?
i think my earlier post " what is a fact" has run it's course.
in this thread i would like to present the same question " what is a fact" from a different viewpoint.. many j.w children have loving parents ( that is a fact) but parents who insanley demanded unquestioning obidience to their deranged standards.. so " what is a fact" to innocent children is that a god who they have never seen nor heard, will destroy them if they dont live to the g.bs deranged standards.. so basically these children have been taught the wrong meaning of words:-.
love is conditional.
NHaH: I think you need to more firmly distinguish between the particular claim ("The cat is white") and the belief in the claim (I believe it is nearly certainly true that "the cat is white"). Much post-modern waffle on truth and facts arise by confusing the two, for instance it is argued that since we can never know for certain that a cat is white (the second type of claim) the first type of statement does not make sense, or since two people can have different beliefs about the cat (say one can think the cat is white and the other black; again a claim of the second type) we cannot make sense of the factual statement "the cat is white".
Once this distinction is made, and once we accept knowledge is not certainty nor have to be, a lot of philosophical deadwood is swept away.

The emphasis on words like fact, truth, proven or certainty in conjuction with scientific ideas is in my oppinion a misunderstanding of the nature of science and knowledge in general. It is much more usefull to consider science as obtained ideas that are usefull in the sense of making predictions; when these predictions turn out to be confirmed or disconfirmed on evidence, this allow us to increase or decrease our confidence in the ideas. "Usefull", "trustworthy" or "properly true" are in my oppinion a more usefull vocabulary.
Bertrand Russell, in his history of western philosophy, discuss this as the difference between the english and continential enlightenment: The continential enlightenment (Kant is a good example) conceptualize the process of obtaining knowledge as starting out from certain ideas that are assumed to be self-evidently true and then deducing consequences that must then be true as well. The english enlightenment view knowledge as being piecemeal, tentative and not necesarily strictly true. Russell illustrate the obtained knowledge as two pyramids: the english enlightenment supporting theories on a wide base of accepted ideas and facts whereas the continential enlightenment is an inverted pyramid where broad knowledge is supported on just a pinpoint of logic.
why, if you're a health care worker who's been exposed to the ebola virus, would you get on an airplane and travel right after?.

Sam Whiskey: in other words, god will kill all the unbelievers and that make you happy. Well that sounds perfectly sane...
Must be frustrating to have your nutty beliefs invalidated every few months :-).

no, sure, and there will be other cases, other fuckups, other health workers infected.. just like with every other contageous disease. I just don't see why there are reasons to be alarmed at this point since *most* african countries seem able to cope.

Nonjwspouse: it spread because they did not follow procedures. Now, plenty of people gets infected every day by all sorts of things in hospitals and it dont mean a lot. If this can be kept relatively under control by most african countries i just dont see why people are so worried.
Want to bet it wont spread much in the us?
