Following the almost cult-like following of the McDonald's McRib, the Society is bringing back the Muff-N-Egg. Frozen cases of the favorite District Convention breakfast food will be made available by special order.

I think people want to believe in an Armageddon
by dgp inthe end of the world (aka "this system of things") has been predicted to happen "soon" many times.
in my own lifetime, and not being a jw, i have been warned that the world would end like six times already.
harold camping predicted one end of the world twice only last year.

I clipped something that someone wrote about the appeal/fascination of the 'zombie apocalypse'. I think some of these thoughts are equally revelant to armageddon hopes/fears:
---
People are delusional in thinking that then end of civilisation would end their problems. It's like the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. Part of the fall of the classical Roman Empire is related to the proliferation of the Christian religion. People no longer felt a need to fix things about their society that were broken, because: "Fuck it! There is life after death!"
It's the same thing in modern times. People are unhappy with their lives and have a "fuck it... it's all gonna burn anyway" attitude.
Apocalypse might end your first world problems, but the new problems would be a bit more intense. Being cold, wet and filthy all the time, scratching in the dirt to find food, starvation, no clean water, fighting off other starving hoards of humanity (aka zombies), getting sick easily, finding out how weak and out of shape you really are, and it goes on and on. -- I believe that at this point of societal breakdown people would go back on their primitive instincts. Rather than look for the "pretty" people which this current society has designated as desirable, strong people with a leadership mentality would ultimately become the sought after partner. Rather than look for that skinny pretty girl, take the girl that is a little plump and has some sort of physical trait that is desirable (ie. Fast, strong, etc..). She is most likely going to survive over some scrawny little women who was used to being given anything (No offense just trying to state my pseudo-facts) --Well that or else they want to feel special, and being a last survivor would give them that. Rather than one among billions, they'd be one of only a few, and the survival of the species would be tied to their fate. Basic hero stuff, really.
In fact I would argue that it is the preferred hero fantasy of those who realize that they are not so special. The apocalypse provides a plausible way for them to become special without any special skill or effort, just dumb luck. It's also a favorite of those who feel that their particular talents are unappreciated or underutilized in the modern civilized world. -

Is Wikipedia turning pro-Watchtower?
by cedars ini was doing some research and stumbled upon the following two wikipedia articles, both of which (at first glance) appear to be mostly pro-watchtower.. take a look for yourself.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/persecution_of_jehovah%27s_witnesses.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/jehovah%27s_witnesses%27_handling_of_child_sex_abuse.
the persecution article seemingly attempts to portray jws as unfairly persecuted.

Virtually all ancient cultures were invested in the idea that at some point (or multiple points) in the past, the earth had been destroyed and remade. I think belief in "end times" is part of our societal makeup.

The route to go is to separate the congregations from the corporation, but how do you do that while still maintaining the control Rutherford fought to gain?
Perhaps a more interesting question would be, is control still necessary?
What did Rutheford's control of congregations accomplish? 1.) It legitimized himself as the heir to Russell's Society against rival claimants. 2.) It mandated the door-to-door ministry, which was a money-making activity that enriched the Society and Rutherford vis-a-vis.
The Watchtower leadership no longer has to fight a civil war. They won the battle and enjoy an honored and elavated status in the eyes of the JW's who view them as Jehovah. Apart from brand identity and direction setting, the field service no longer a viable money-making endeavor. We see evidence of this in Society scale-backs and cost-cutting. Anecdotally you see this in JW's that won't even ask for donations at the door.
I like the idea suggested that leasing Kingdom Halls might be a good alternative to the preaching work. The Society already profits from loans and insurance sales, why not toss rent in there. Make 'Kingdom Hall' a brand, sold and run by indepedent franchise operators.
Just thinking out loud ...

In the light of the Conti case the door-to-door ministry is a growing concern. The Watchtower argues that Kendrick was just a "rank-and-file member". Attorney Simmons claims Kendrickwas a minister engaged on behalf of the Watchtower as he went door-to-door. Other court rulings have indicated that "volunteer status" does not exempt organizations from liability.
I can see a challenge being the fact that what started as a normal way to peddle books at the turn of the century has evolved into a brand identity. The field service is a matter of pride for JW's who have the "we are the only ones doing this" mentality. Take away the field service and you lose a key component to the JW experience. Unless you replace it with something else it will leave them rather directionless. They no longer have a mission.

My Guesses for the Future
1. New understanding of Jesus' parable of the 'Faithful and Discreet Slave'. FDS exclusively the Governing Body. The domestics are the other anointed. The belongings are the other sheep.
2. Expansion of disassociation by actions to include inactive ones.
3. Gradual backing away of the blood doctrine, making it a "conscience matter"
4. Seperation of the Watchtower and the individual congregations to protect the Orgs interests against lawsuit.
5. Governing Body able to "anoint" individuals via "laying on of hands".

@lostinthought
Thank you kindly! Unfortunately the publisher is not going to release the whole thing until early 2013 when the serialization ends.
I do have another novel called 'Paradise Earth' coming out in print/eBook later this year by Curiosity Quills. That one will release as a complete work.

I heard that he married into a money and that his wife's father owned the company that leased the CO vehicles. However, http://www.circuitvehicles.com/home/ is owned by the Society and ran out of Bethel so I don't know what the story is.
