  How would you respond to this defense made on behalf of The Watchtower's Child Abuse lawsuits?

  details of the society's child abuse policies have been published in jehovah's witnesses' publications, although more specific guidelines are only made available to elders, or on request.

  press releases issued by the watch tower society's office of public information confirm that if a person accused of molestation repeatedly denies the charges of his victim, and there is no other witness to the incident, "the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time", but would report to authorities if required by local laws.

  What I see is that Watchtower's own policies are bringing reproach on Jehovah's name. They've bitten off their own tail and now they are bleeding.

  Before my Dad's dementia set in, I'd had a couple of discussions with my him about the pedophilia in the org, particularly what went on in his former congregation. These things upset him greatly, which is saying something because my father usually keeps his emotions close to his chest -- he doesn't usually show grief or sadness openly. But he did during these discussions.

  I said to him quietly "If these people are allowed to remain as Jehovah's Witnesses, then this cannot be God's organization."

  I am so hoping some laws will be enacted to protect people from groups like the Watchtower. We need to take away their ability to hurt people.

  Why is it wrong for Christians to celebrate Christmas?

  this was inspired by terry's thread.... it is something that raises many questions about the jw belief system.. .

  for one thing - the bible certainly explains all the details of the christ birth.

  it certainly does not tell people to avoid celebrating it with feasts, customs, etc.

  'we don't put people on pedestals' - unless they are piousneers, elders, co, GB, etc, then they are always on the pedestal platform

  Definitely a two-faced rule for sure but as a kid that is what I was taught. I am not sure the 'annointed'/authority figures were as elevated in status back when I was a kid (circa 1960s and '70s) as they are now. At least, I don't remember that.

  Of course, my young mind immediately went to another question: If we don't put people on pedestals then why do we celebrate weddings? Isn't that celebration putting the bride and groom on a pedestal?

  I never got an answer to that one.

  I was given a couple of reasons.

  One was the general birthdays excuses: 'we don't put people on pedestals' and because of John the Baptist getting beheaded.

  The other was the whole disgust with the pagans' Yule celebration and the supposed sexual practice of straddling the Yule log.

  my husband and i have been out of the org for quite some time, but still find that old ideas and values come up and bite us on the ass.. lately, i've been plagued by an increase in the frequency and severity of my nightmares (which have always been an issue,) so i've begun to dream journal.

  in just a few days, this realization cropped up.

  i can't save people.. i've been blogging again recently.

  They said yesterday at the CA," Noah was a success even though he only saved 8 people." WHY??? He did what GOD said to do. So, what does GOD tell us to do? Just hang tight and the GB/SLAVE will tell you what "GOD" wants you to do.

  a science stopper is " a hypothesis that makes no testable or useful predictions and therefore prevents any science from being performed based on that hypothesis.

  " a common example of this would be the claim that god(s) created our universe.

  having no way of telling "created" universes apart from "non-created" universes prevents the claim from ever being verified or from being debunked.
