"Don't you love Jehovah anymore then ?"
by Phizzy inmrs phizzy ran into a jw lady from a neighbouring congo who has known us since we were teenagers, before we married, sometime in the pleistocene era lol.. during the conversation said lady asked if mrs phizzy was going to the r.c, to which mrs phizzy replied, "oh you haven't heard, we no longer go to meetings".. the jw lady then came back with the question in the thread title, which mrs phizzy handled well.. the point of this is though, what a god-awful, stupid, cult-minded question to ask !.
did she think we woke up one morning and thought "we don't love god anymore" ??
would that happen to anyone ?.

This is the response I wish to give one day:
"When I was a child I used to believe. I also believed in The Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, and The Easter Bunny. Silent and invisible Bronze and Iron Age Middle Eastern deities are a product of the human imagination and nothing more. I have finally grown up."

DOES BELIEF IN THE BIBLE DESTROY ONE'S INTELLECTUAL CAPACITY?
by TerryWalstrom inbased on information to be found at: http://www.csicop.org/si/show/when_dont_the_highly_educated_believe_in_evolution_the_bible_believers_effe/.
the bible-believers effect.
those who believe the bible is the word of god (bible believers) and those who dont believe the bible is the word of god (bible nonbelievers) differ in their beliefs that humans evolved from earlier species of animals.

I feel belief in the Bible definitely hinders one's intellectual capacity. I don't think it destroys it in all cases. I cite myself as one such person. Luckily, I chose to be intellectually honest with myself and examine evidence. A requirement of faith is to abandon this, along with logic and reason.
At the very least, as LisaRose stated, people of faith are mentally lazy. At the worst, they are willfully ignorant, intellectually dishonest. Some become extremist/fundamentalist.
At some point, every single person of faith is confronted with factual evidence that refutes their belief/faith. It is at this moment that a person must choose to be willfully ignorant and intellectually dishonest or accept the evidence and begin the work of figuring out exactly what their faith really means. They are forced to step outside their comfort zone or remain in it and become insular and stunted.
Just because someone WANTS something to be true, does not mean that it is.

Elderly sister disgusted with obscene Bethel 'Happy Song'
by Esse quam videri init is reported that one elderly sister in british columbia expressed complete disgust at what she considered an obscene act in the bethel 'happy song'.
now everything is, of course, subject to perspective.
i would imagine her perspective is just as valuable as anyone elses.

Perhaps as you get older, normal things appear obscene.
My father, with his dementia, found newspaper ads for perfume with women dressed in evening gowns to be 'nudey pictures' and would rip them out and crumple them up in disgust.

What are you up to this summer?
by Xanthippe ini really enjoy hearing about other people's lives.
feeling a little lonely this evening so please tell me if you have plans for the summer months.
i may go to some outdoor theatre with my daughter who's home from uni; with a picnic and a bottle of wine.

Heaven
My summer is being consumed with getting my Dad's contents ready for auction. Once that's done, the next phase is dumpster and getting anything done to sell his house. So not much fun for me this year. Will be happy when it's all done. -

I was encourage to read the Bible, but the correct Bible
by John Aquila ini got a brief email of encouragement today.
i was told i need to read the bible, but the correct bible before it's to late.
the sign that the end is close is very obvious-(gay marriage is legal) .

There is no such thing as a correct Bible.
What we have today are copies of copies of copies, etc, etc. The originals are long gone. From the copies of copies of copies, etc, mistakes were made during those copying processes due to the fact that they were manually copied time and again. The Bible cannot be viewed as 100% accurate.

Jesus Christ explains the particle used in my cosmology theory using parables in the bible.
by Aleon ini wrote a cosmology theory using an expanding particle shaped as a perfect sphere.
in the bible jesus christ speaks of this particle in his parables.
this is good news!.

I'm suspect of any theory that has a foundation of the Bible or attempting to prove the Bible due to the Bible's error riddled content. Ancient desert dwellers had no idea of how the universe worked and this is crystal clear in their writings within said holy book, starting in Genesis.
It hasn't worked for archeology either, it's actually worked against it. They had to stop doing that because they found their information was incorrect.

Just two weeks in our new home and the knock at the door happens!!
by truthseekeriam injust relaxing with my morning coffee enjoying looking at the pictures fipper shared of the camping trip when the dreaded knock came.
of course the dogs beat me to the door followed by my daughter trying to catch them, she looks through the giant peep hole and waves me away saying "its them.
" i almost just walked away from the door when i saw the sweet face of a 5/6 year old little boy with his mom and dad and couldn't resist talking to them.. i opened the door and smiled and said jehovah's witnesses?

I think that was very kind of you to give them your input and time and that you were respectful but frank with them.
I think your suggestion to the man to ask the elders about child abusers within the congregation is an excellent one. It's a benchmark too. I would also suggest that he ask them to let him know if any future abusers join. That way, if anything ever happens to any of his children, he has some ammo with the authorities. It also puts responsibility on the elders.

A Tired Child is Better than a Dead Child
by snugglebunny inincredibly, fred franz once announced at a district convention: "yesterday a sister approached me and said, brother franz, why do we have to keep our children up so late just so they can attend the meetings?
i responded sister ***, would you rather have a tired child or a dead child?".
*cue rapturous applause*.

Unless things change, children are really a liability in this religion. The odds are they are going to leave it. Having children detracts from the parents being able to devote more time to Field Serve-Us and meeting attendance/indoctrination sessions.
