Elders are Complicit with WT Society in Child Abuse Scandals- Gonzalo Campos Case
by flipper inof course, most of us realize this.
however sometimes even on this board sometimes threads have stated that the jw elders have been occasionally painted as the " fall guys " who take the rap for the wt society leaders - which of course is true - to a degree.
however- that being said , many times elders have failed to protect - or even have failed to advocate for child abuse victims when it has been within their power to do so.

STADD said: I remember a conversation I had with a CO around 2005 about child abuse and he told me it was not that bad in the Wt. org. That there was only a few cases of it worldwide. I said to him I must know all of them when I told him of 7 cases I knew about. He had this scared look come over his face and then he changed the subject.
I concur with what STADD said. It is my experience that most JWs do not realize the enormity of the issue of child abuse in the organization.
I told my Dad a few years ago that if there was just 1 JW who was a child molester, then this cannot be God's organization. How could/would God allow this? My Father could not answer this question. This was in direct relation to a discussion we had about a child molester in my Dad's former congregation.

JM, you bring up another very valid point about the Biblical flood/Noah's Ark story and the issue of feeding all the animals on that boat for a year.
LOL! Thanks VI. I will be sending those videos to one of my friends. We have fun regularly dissing the Bible.

Christians not knowing the Bible
by Viviane inlast night a young man in a bar struck up a conversation with me.
our town is having our pride parade soon and he brought it up, the bible and how it's against the bible.
me being me, i said that i couldn't care less that it was against the bible and that it was a horrible guide for morality anyway.

Do or did the JW's believe dinosaurs were vegetarians?
by Crazyguy ini thought at one time or maybe they still do believe that the dinosaurs were vegetarians?
-

LisaRose beat me to it. It's actually that they believed ALL dinosaurs were vegetarians.
The thing that amazes me are the Creationists who think people lived at the same time as the dinosaurs. Apparently these people have never heard of the fossil record.

Viviane, I can relate to your OP. I have had many conversations with Christians and it amazes me how much they do not know about the Bible or the natural world. One of my friends is Catholic. I pointed out the scripture at Ezekiel 23:20. She was shocked. She had no idea that was in the Bible.
fmf said: We could make a lot of money starting our own cult, what do you say Cofty and Viviane? The church of Cathartocism? Or church-of-derp?
Just out of curiosity, I Googled 'church of derp'. This was the first image that came up:

Who or What is the Holy Spirit?
by FusionTheism intradition within christianity has long been that any time the phrases holy spirit, holy ghost, or spirit of godare used in the bible (especially in the new testament), it always refers to the mysterious third divine person of the trinity, who is fully god, co-equal to the father and son, yet somehow distinct.. i want to present a simplified alternative view: let the context determine the meaning!.
(one thing to keep in mind is that the meaning of the bible words used for spirit basically is unseen force or invisible presence.).
the holy spirit as the mind and personality of god.

* giggle * That too.
I like to use 'figment' as this denotes fiction, invention, feigned... aka not pertaining to anything truthful.

Influence of Death in the Mind
by ivanatahan inmost meetings and congregations stress the idea that jehovah's witnesses will live forever on a paradise earth.
most jws are always "comforting" others about how death is only temporary.
then you get those jws who are scared of death.

Religion sets mankind up on a pedestal. It has separated humans from the natural world, stating crap like the Earth was ideally made for us and that we are to subdue it. Getting educated about the natural world is key.
There are Laws of Life. In my studies, I have learned this:
Without Death There Would Be No Life.
Humans are not exempt from this Law.

Dolty said: I think that religion is the scourge of mankind. It is illogical. It is unnecessary. We do not need to pass on the superstitious nonsense to the next generation.
Dolty, thank you for sharing part of your story. More people need to speak out against religion; against the abuse they wield. My experience has been that religion is abuse disguised as love. It's just f'ed up. Christopher Hitchens articulates it so well here:
