The other forum, bohm, is secret,
Well, I guess it's not "secret" any more, blabbermouth.

It was the shameful way she used Oompa's death as a way to bring attention to herself that was the final straw for me. If any of you knew the true story behind all that, you would be appalled.
Social etiquette and just plain old good manners, say that posting obituaries and mediating between "so-called family", is generally left to family of the deceased or very close friends. Only an attention whore of the highest rank, would take over those duties at such a sad time.
The ease with which her followers were able to ignore even universally accepted social norms in that situation and the lengths they went to to show support of what she was doing, tells me they are blinded and no longer in control of themselves.
Didn't any of the followers notice how she suddenly dropped all the "OOHH!! OHHHH!! Dear ones, I have a message for you from Dearest OOOmpa's family!!" ??
It was because she had to be beaten over the head and have shoved down her throat, information which she wasn't entitled to, just to make her stop.
I'm sure all this means nothing to her "faithful"......
in a discussion with some other dear ones, the question was asked as to what such ones put their faith in.
in response to one comment that"one can't function without faith," another disagreed, stating ones can, that "many do so every day... the ones who have trust" (in things like the sun rising in the east versus the west).
that trust extended to "faith" based "on nature and the natural order of things.
Well, no worries!
I certainly can't argue with facts.

OOOooooo, too bad you didn't edit in time, Sab.

just the fact that she hears God.
Oh, it's a fact.......? I didn't know that.

Sab:
when Shelby is around she draws the scientists out of the woodwork for study and ridicule. They see her as a living, breathing specimen of what has brought on this whole religious mess.
Her personality is so EPIC that scientists are drawn to her? Just so they can try and figure her out? They marvel at the wonder that is Shelby and the power she has?
No, that doesnt' sound like you've attached too much importance to her at all......

Well, I'm currently reading "Raven-The Untold Story of Jim Jones...." and so this conversation is both fascinating and horrifying to me.
The early signs of a cult-following are usually subtle enough so that the followers just get drawn in gradually, but obvious enough to outsiders who are in tune with how cults work. Jim Jones operated for many years before Jonestown and was generally accepted in his community and by the families of his followers. He was loved and adored by his followers, and when it was shown he was less than savory, they didn't care, he could do no wrong in their eyes and most of them willingly followed him to Guyana.....
So,
........what's everyone's favourite flavour of kool-aid?

That's not "Palm's thread" any more.
It's Shelby's.

Okay, now back to the scheduled program... of whether there can be a truce, and if so how/the terms, etc. Unless someone turned off the TV. I mean, I know some may have changed the channel... but all we gotta do is grab that "clicker" and change it right back. I'm willing...
No, I think we've gotten a few contructive ideas here. Whether people want to apply them or not, is up to them.
And also it's pretty much been de-railed with trivial minutia from a few whose aim was to de-rail......
So, the thread is all your's, Shelby! Have at 'er!

In fact I agree with both you and qcmbr
NOW you say you agree with 2 points you just said you DIDN'T agree with??
Do you think it's funny to waste my time helping you to understand?
And now you bring up a third point to argue about?
what I don't agree with you on is that concord is possible whilst dissecting and discarding ideas.
Not nice, not nice at all.
