  I am not a taoist, I am a confucianist. Showing my stuff to a Taoist is like showing Jewish religious thought to an orthadox Christian (both will say that the other is 'full of it'). I am perplexed that you would appeal to this man's authority in this way so easily. I'd love to speak to him in this thread though.

  And I did that. You have claimed many times to be "superior" to the rest of us and "greater". You have said that you got these ideas from the I Ching and that you are here (and on other sites) to bear witness to the I Ching.

  I have started reading some of what you suggested, Sab. Doesn't that say to you that I HAVE made an effort to respect you and your research?

  He has read your posts here and on other sites and....................He says...... you are full of it. And frankly, his life's example is much more compelling to me than your's.

  I respect that you are searching.

  But I don't respect your dogmatism that WHATEVER YOU THINK AT THAT MOMENT IN TIME IS RIGHT. **note: thoughts change at any moment in time and......ARE STILL ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.** Like most believers. You expect everyone to accept whatever you say TODAY......and change their beliefs according to YOUR changing beliefs. Sort of like the Governing Body......

  Since this hasn't actually gone into a real debate yet, I will give my concern with theist's evidence:

  I've been on this board for quite a while now and here's what I've seen.

  The more "godly" people get - the more their posts reflect their own ideas and thoughts: "I think this.....I believe this....I am this wonderful kind of person......I am fabulous, etc........I.....I .......I......Oh, and by the way......I think the same as Jesus does."

  I'm flabbergasted that people think *that* is an authority.

  That's what frustrates me the most on these threads.

  To me, the problem is that theists accept "feelings" and "voices" as authorities. And then get offended that the rest of us don't.

  There's no point in debating when each other's criteria for what consittues an "authority" on the subject is SO different.

  CLOUD ATLAS: a movie or a life experience?

  my 19 year old daughter lily and i attended the opening day of cloud atlas.. .

  movies can be a lot of things ranging from mindless entertainment, spectacle, diversion, exploitation and such to straight storytelling.. what movies almost never are is what cloud atlas is.. what is it?.

  I saw this movie yesterday and I agree with Terry here:

  I would suggest either reading the novel first or, at a minimum, going to Wiki and reading the synopsis of the plot first.

  You will never figure out certain things on your own no matter how many viewings transpire. It is better to have the structure firmly in mind!

  I really liked it and want to watch it again.

  Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?

  until recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.

  it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.

  do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

  Let's just end this by giving Chariklo the answer she wants:

  Atheists scorn believers because atheists are horiible, evil and vile people who deserve the Hell to which they will be sent.

  The scorn is just a cover for the deep jealousy they feel towards believers.

  Atheists are so jealous and scornful of believers because they are being driven insane from fear of the future.

  Atheists have no love in their lives. How could they know true love, when they dont' love God, right?

  So they are nothing but miserable wretches who just want to bring peace-loving believers down to their filthy level.

  Sorry, atheists, if I blew your cover. But I think the believers were already onto you.

  one of the accusations against christ that some people make to me from time to time is that christ never spoke out against slavery, and so he must condone it.. i would submit that slavery (the forcible enslaving of your fellow man)... is not the root problem.

  it is merely a symptom of the root problem.

  christ came to deal with the root.

  Nice try. But I have only ever asked MODS to look into one poster.....your friend. And they were banned by MODS. You can continue to blame everyone else, all you want. You can continue to say they were "provoked", which is still blaming everyone else.

  But in reality, they were banned for what they themselves did.

  And YOU backed them every step of the way. Because Jesus told you to.
