@ thetrueone~ What amazes me still is that while inside the org, I thought we had such a strong following. We were told we were hated because there were so many of us and our message "stung like the locusts". 7 MILLION is a lot, right? And WORLDWIDE?? What other religion can claim that? Well, upon exiting, I saw the true level of JW's influence on the world around them. It's almost nil. Aside from a few Supreme Court rulings regarding freedom of speech, they're but a blip on the radar. People fall prey to the WTS because they are so unknown, even though they claim they are well-known in communities for their preaching work... In reality, Mormons are well-known for theirs as well. They and the JW's are more "well-known" for being a nuiscance on a Saturday morning than for their ACTUAL message. Ask any unassuming worldling what they think of JW's and you MIGHT get a response about the blood transfusion refusal issue. You MIGHT get a response about the refusal to celebrate holidays or salute the flag...But more likely, you'll get "Those are the people who knock on your door and sell the Watchtower, right?".
They are known for THAT. Not their message, and even at that , they are not KNOWN worldwide...

To their own excuse they were in their early 20's, not very well educated, from a poor family background.
Right for the picking you might say.
That's exactly what got my mother in. Her mother was a JW, but wasn't practicing when my mom and her sibs were growing up. My mom grew up Catholic (her father wouldn't allow my grandmother to make the kids JW...wouldn't even allow the kids to read the bible). My grandmother only told my mom that "God's name is Jehovah" and so when the JW's came a-knockin' when my mom was 21, she just "knew" it was the true religion because they used the name...and supposedly, she had been praying for help in knowing god (yet, knowing my mom, she heard that experience from someone else and somehow it morphed into being her own...). My brother was only a year old at the time and I was a long way off from being thought of. My parents both come from poor and very abusive backgrounds, so mom was definitely ripe for the plucking, while dad studied a little when I was very young, but quit. He converted after I grew up...

I have to say something regarding the not being able to go door-to-door right away...
In MY case, I was inactive for a while, then was publicly reproved, and I was still allowed to go d-2-d. They specifically told me "That's the one privilege you can enjoy...we don't take that away unless you're disfellowshipped". A year later I was again reproved (privately) and again, same thing. Allowed to go d-2-d, but that was it. Interestingly, I was accused of apostasy BOTH times (along with other stuff). They allowed me to go out anyway.
You see, they want more people out knocking and handing out literature and collecting donations. If every inactive person reactivated and was not allowed to go d-2-d, that would mean less they could count as publishers. You're no longer a publisher if you are DF'ed. You're still considered a publisher if you're inactive...you're an inactive publisher. When you decide to reactivate, the first thing they want you to do besides make all the meetings is GO IN SERVICE.

I was just invited...
by mrsjones5 inby a pretty jw lady to the memorial.
hubby got the door but waited for me to come to the door (he was on the phone).
i listened to her introduction and held the memorial tract, then i handed it back and said quite firmly that i was not interested.

I was invited by family... Well, my mother just automatically assumed I wasn't going, so she didn't bother... But my father did say "I dunno if you're gonna go to the memorial, but it's in a couple of weeks. You can always go to another congregation if you're not comfortable seeing our elders". I will not be attending. I'm all set. Other congregation or no, it's not worth my time to attend something I don't believe in.

Its official, call me Mr Apostate from now on
by Joey Jo-Jo ini overheard a conversation from my family, jw's are shunning me, but the best part is i am not a jw, never been bathtised, just a born in who woke up in his early thirties.
the reasoning behind it was something i did, it wasn't fornication because im still a virgen, it wasn't stealing, killing or praying to false gods, drinking or anything that the bible defines as sin, im not even the going out type, i dont have many friends, never been reprove or did anything to set a bad example (i was your typical jw) no no no, it was a book, it was sending an email to a family member who happens to be jw with the shephearding the flock ppf.. this book was a huge shock to the person, eventually it raised questions and spread around, eventually this went full circle back at me, my parents already concerned for some time has asked brothers to see if they can fix my reasoning so i can be brainwashed again and give them money to some rich guys in brooklyn who dont have any ethical responsibilities towards others.
i wanted my parents to do this, i want them to see what the brothers will do and say about me, thinking and hopping, that some day they will wake up from their long sleep.

I'm with J. Hofer.... You need to lose your V-card lol. And now that you've lost the constraints of the WTS, you need to LIVE. We have this one life, this one existence, to enjoy. So GO ENJOY IT!
