I understand 'Ich bin ein Berliner' means "I am a doughnut" in German. As opposed to 'Ich bin Berliner', irrelvant sorry but it always makes me smile.

Christians explain? Jews never believed in a Trinity even today so how/when did it start?
by Witness 007 injews for thousands of years have believed in their "one god" so i always wondered if in jesus time this was the view, how and when did the trinity start?
did jesus start it off?
are you saying jews were trinitarian?

My recollection is that the JWs taught that although Jesus was merely a man when on Earth, he had a prior spiritual existence and was the first and only directly created being. I seem to recall that everything else was created through him according to JW theology. Then when he died he went back into that or a similar position. I may be wrong here and my memory may have suffered from trying to erase all the bullshit.
I would call myself now an agnostic and definitely not Christian but I have to say that on the subject of the Trinity - when Christians try to explain it it sounds like the worst kind of tortured shoe-horning. That is to say they dont appear to really understand what they are trying to explain. I think the evidence to support it from the Bible is tenuous in the extreme. Having said that I havent got much time for the Bible either. I do like Jeff Ts comparison with the wavicle.
Personally people can believe what they like however this all looks like two bald men arguing over a comb again.

inbetween: it is hard to know whether what you say regaarding prophecy is true given that the so called New Testament is for the most part constructed according to the politics of the ruling party of the day and the Old Testament contains many references to books that are no longer in it. I'd have more faith in a recipe for Tomato Soup than the Bible.

I think it is good to have JW apologists here. To play Devils's advocate is sometimes a very effective way to get at the truth (not that they are playing of course). In the responses to the points they make, there is an opportunity for them either to listen and at least consider that they may be wrong or ignore it. Either way sooner or later someone more open-minded will come along, read the dialogue and form their own view. So although some may remain in their conviction that the WTS is telling the truth, it's their problem and others will have their minds opened enough to question their own beliefs.
It seems to me that JWs are just one more in a long line of organised religions, cults and sub-cults going back millennia into the mists of time. I am certain that adherent of all their predecessors would have argued equally passionately and sincerely that Jupiter/Odin/Ahura Mazda/<insert deity name here> was the true God and that many were equally convinced that the sacred writings were inspired and authoritative. I can see no reason why this will not extend into the mists of the future, the deity-du-jour slowly morphing.

QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY!!!
by whathehadas inwhether you are a witness or have been.
you have probably thought of this before.
i ask myself this one, how perfect is perfect?
-
GromitSK
Isn't perfection, if any definition is possible, determined by how well a thing fulfills the purpose for which it was created or developed? Perhaps perfect means 'without defect'. Determining whether a characteristic is a defect or whether it is a natural feature which has developed presupposes that we know the original purpose. I cannot see how perfection has to mean uniformity in thought or action, or why perfection means 'not making mistakes' (eg could a person be perfect but need experience? if so then perhaps they could make mistakes whilst still being perfect as they gained more experience), I cannot see why perfection means omniscience either.
Now I expect one or two will proffer the Bible as the definition of the purpose for which we are created and they are entitled so to believe. Just because one believes the Bible to offer the definition however doesn't make it so.
My own view is that there is no point in thinking too much about what perfection means for a human as none of us are likely to experience it in our lifetimes, or see it in another person, even if we could agree on a definition.

by OUTLAW ini`ve been on this board, since before noah built his ark (take note badboy..lol!!

I think sometimes people forget that at one end of every posting there is a human being and at the other any number. I try to post in a way that isn't provocative, even if I disagree. It is better to ask questions I guess a fool replies before he has heard the matter :) Things can escalate very quickly. People having a different opinion doesn't annoy me as it is a learning opportunity all round. The way some people actually do it bothers me a lot.

Not having a paradise earth in the future makes me sad - What about you?
by BonaFide inyes, i am enjoying realizing the truth about the truth.. but there is another side to it.
the world as we know it didn't seem to me to be the way that god intended it to be.
i know i was brainwashed, but it felt good believing that all the bad things would be changed.

Frankly when I sat down and thought about it objectively I never really understood the tortuous reasoning of the JWs. How can one miss something that is a total fabrication? As for taking comfort from the book of revelation I'd rather read a mail order catalogue.

You are entitled to your feelings. Why would anyone want to make you change the way you feel about it? Even across the US opinion is divided as it is in the UK.
