  Needs help telling my mom that I dont want to be apart of her religion

  i really don't know how to just tell my mom that i dont want to do be a jw, i mean i really shouldn't have to tell her if she'd actually pay attention to my attitude everytime she goes on a religious rant, but she chooses to stay blind and keeps making me go to that place and sit through meetings that i don't agree with on most occasions...i think that she thinks that if she keeps making me go then i'll miraculously have a change of heart and want to stay in (which will never happen).

  i don't want to be disrepectful about it but since she obviously doesn't care about my feelings towards it, then why should i care if i hurt her feelings in the process, you know?

  i just really don't know what to do, everytime i go to that place i feel fake because everthing they instruct us not to do, i've pretty much done it or will do it with no remorse, and i don't care either way.

  My mom still witnesses to me and still sends me the WT and Awakes. I throw them in the trash. I sometimes put the phone on mute and unmute it when I figure she is done witnessing. I was not DFd so perhaps she is counting her time.

  As for college, all I can say is "IT WORKS!". Seriously, when you say you have to go to the library because you have to research something and no, you can't use online research, you really need to get up and go. As for FS, use school as an excuse. If you have to meet with the geek club to do it, try. Anything to not to have to go pound on doors will make it worth it. A big plus will be the friends you'll make.

  I've learned that once I paid my bills, my mom was happy I could. It is a lot easier to preach to me when I'm paying my own way.

  Oh, and go to college. Community college. I know, I know, they don't saction it. *They* don't have to. It is your life and your future. Pay your own way. Take out loans, work part-time, etc. Do what ever you have to.

  And, a plus side, home work and class time are a perfect excuse to not go to the KH or out in FS. Another way to get out of going? The campus library. You need to research a paper and the book is at the library on campus.

  Think about it.

  It worked for me. Honest.

  why does every waking moment need to be filled with something?!.

  when was the last time you just kicked back and daydreamed, got lost in a novel or wasted an afternoon listening to your old l.p's?

  the world is so fast, work has deadlines, housework must get done and when you think you've finally caught up another pile of tasks lands in your 'in tray'.. i want to be a tortoise!.

  Did you do very early morning field service?

  in my old congregation, there was a group of dubs who started field service at 4am - yes, that's 4 o'clock in the morning.

  i went with them on a few occasions.. to be ready, you'd have to be up at least 3:30am to get washed and dressed and maybe get a bite to eat.. at 4am, our designated driver would show up along with a couple of sleepy eyed jws trying to "get their time in.

  " many times we'd go pick up a jw only to find they forgot about service and overslept.. .

  I'm curious, did you leave any call back information on these mags?

  It has been decades since I went in FS and I simply don't recall if we gave people our information on how to contact us. Since I was either paired with my sister or another woman from the hall it seems strange if we would give out personal info to strangers. What is done now? Do you leave your personal or contact info with strangers on how to get a Free in Home Bible Study?

  And, did any of you ever get any RVs from these efforts? Seems like such a waste of time and sleep.

  Insane.

  No, I mean that.

  I thought 9:30 am on Saturday was bad. Holy S&it!!!

  I used to get up for work at 4:30 am. That was a paying job. I liked getting paid. $$$$$$

  Insane. All for what? You poor thing. I mean that sincerely.

  Currently going to an accelerated college...and its bringing me back down to earth!

  i am currently going to school for criminal justice with a administration in human services...and boy oh boy!

  you think you know it all, you been to college before and this teacher can't tell you nothing that you dont already know.

  man, was i wrong (smh).

  Bethel and college don't compare. I have never been to Bethel, however, I have been to college. At a university and later, as an adult while working. College/university is about learning something to help you into a career. It is a place to go and start to grow into an adult. It is a place to learn how to make decisions on your own, without your Mom and Dad. It is a place to drink beer and eat pizza-responsibily. It is a place to make new, lifelong friends. It is a place to find new loves. But mainly it is a place to learn.

  Bethel is a cult training camp.

  As BOTR noted, it sounds like this could be a for profit school and not an actual accredited uni. Do you know?

  Also, as she noted, trying to ingest that much information so quickly may not be the best route to learning for you.

  A key thing you said was "A lot of tedious reading, etc. And not the kind of stuff that people like to read about: very technical terms, formulas, etc. You have to make sure you read throughly, and I mean EVERYTHING!".

  Those technical terms and formulas are the keys to your sucess. Your learning what will be a lifelong career should not be tedious. It should be exciting and interesting. If it is not why are you doing it?

  Need reference for withholding the truth from "those who don't deserve it"

  hey all, i know that the references for 'theocratic warfare' are ancient and not considered useful.. i would like a reference to the wt saying that one does not have to give truth to those who are not worthy or something similar.. help!.

  this information is for a court case.

  even if i dont really celebrate it like...i'm suppose to be going out for karokee tonight with a friend, then doing something with another friend on the 26th.

  two more years and i'll be the big 3-0. man, how time passes.

  just some years ago, i was just a breast fed child running wild!.

  A Beloved and Compassionate Elder Trapped in a Cult Just Died , What should I do?

  i just heard the sad news that a very loving and kind elder for the congregation that i belonged to for 15 years just died from a heart attack.

  he was someone that i had great admiration and deep respect for, even now that i'm out from the jws.

  he was my mentor and an inspiration to me as an elder, and in many ways he showed me the contradictions of the wts, he was a breath of fresh air within a cult.

  Your descriptions of your friend and the funeral were incredible. You showed tremendous strength in going. Entering the KH like that was brave!

  Being in there listening to this boring talk got me a headache, very sleepy and dumbed down.
  It's almost like people are being hypnotized, perfect conditions for indoctrination and programming the mind with cult propaganda. The people look like drones, no emotions, it was really strange in a sick way.
