Speaking of voting in other countries....I read in this month's National Geographic(November 2008 under the heading "Culture") that in Australia that if people don't go to the polls to vote that they face fines. How do the JW's in Australia deal with that?

Survival Mode?
by lnunya ini had lunch with a jw associated friend this past week.
according to her father, they have announced at the meetings to start stocking up on survival supplies in preparation for great trib/armageddon.
for those of you that still go, is this announcement widespread?

I'm thinking that maybe this is a local thing? I don't know that for sure. BUT my father is an elder. I'm positive if they made that an official announcement that he and Mom would definitely say something to me. I've not heard anything like that. In fact a few weeks ago my mom made a comment about having to wait a few more years before the end..........
The organization is a HUGE gossip machine..........

Dec. 15th WT - About " Integrity " - Hypocrisy Galore - What Do You Think?
by flipper inmy lurking jw friend sent me a copy of this new dec.15th rubbish on " holding fast to your integrity " - and i don't know if it's the fact i've been out of the witnesses 5 years or not - but the ludricousness of this information seems to be increasing to me.
once again the watchtower society makes big issues of miniscule , small time actions raising the fire alarm , but gloss over more serious sins like murder , for instance .
for example , check this tidbit out from paragraph 10 - " we know that god's word forbids fornication.

Pedophiles are covered up but a teenager's NATURAL urges are to be punished. Not that I'm condoning teenage sex. I'm not. But it seems to be the way of the organization to make natural impulses dirty.
And you're totally right about the example of David and Saul in my opinion. Disagree with the GB to your peril. They've made that clear over and over again throughout the years. Oppose them and lose your family and friends.
To listen to witnesses now is like listening to a broken record. The same things "new light", "waiting on Jehovah" etc is all they blurt out. There's nothing of substance.

Blood transfusion.................and I felt sick.
by Summer wine inalthough my opinion of the use of blood has dramatically changed.
i was surprised with my reaction when i recently visited someone in hospital and the blaz a way the nurse said that the patient had been given 2 units of blood to "build him up".
when i looked at the hooked up line of red blood, i felt physically sick, not because of the sight of blood as some people are, but that he was was been intravenously "fed" blood.

It's many years of conditioning.....it's hard to get over....it still strikes me a little wierd too. It'll pass. The JW's make such a point of portraying transfusions as the quick ticket to eternal death that it's hard to retrain your mind........and this conditioning is how they keep people in the organization.....fear fear FEAR!!!

I have to admit that I always enjoyed the lights......and my favorite Christmas song is "Oh Holy Night". I remember being very young and gazing out at the sky on Christmas Eve and wondering how Santa knew not to come to our house because we were JW's. I still look at Christmas trees with fascination.....
but there's nothing better than the good ole summertime!!!! Wanna trade places?? We have snow forecasted for tomorrow!! BLECH!!!

And to my knowledge there is still no benefits from the WTBTS for the ones that have served the organization for many years.
Guess if you've pioneered for 40 yrs and can't afford your blood pressure medication then you're outta luck. OH WAIT!! Jah will provide!!!! <very sarcastic tone....
