Do you think she is interested in you? Has she expressed interest before? Have you been her confidante through the divorce? I'm in the midst of a separation, and I know how hard it is. It's friggin lonely, you've lost your self-confidence, you are scared of being alone for the rest of your life... It sucks... I don't know your relationship but maybe rather than answering bluntly, tell her that you know that someone is going to come along who thinks she is sexy & pretty, and as her friend, you know she deserves someone who will see her in that way, it just takes time.

Why I am an atheist
by Awakened at Gilead insomeone (a born-again exjw) on youtube asked me why i was an atheist... i crafted a brief response... it follows:.
1. religious reason: there is no proof for god outside of the bible.
once i dropped my belief in the bible, the judeo-christian concept of god fell apart like a house of cards.

Lance,
As usual, you present logical arguments. Unless you suffer from cognitive dissonance (which most of us have at some point) one can't refute what you are saying. Sometimes I think it was easier believing in God, but it was blind-faith, it's not like God ever spoke to me, or showed me his presence... Those who say they've experienced God are, in my mind, projecting their desires as opposed to accepting their realities.

So um, anyone have a bible verse refering to Mary on a piece of toast? Don't you think you might be reading into that a little bit?

The weather in Vancouver is very similar to the UK... Vancouver is a very cosmopolitan city, quite modern... Great cultural scene, the cost of living has made it prohibitive in the past though. I love it there, and would move given the opportunity!

I've Got To Tell This!
by snowbird inone of the police officers here is a transplanted new yorker who was raised as a jw by his g'ma.. he and i talk a lot about his jw experience, his g'ma, and his children (boy age 18, girl age 11).. his kids are both talented athletes (tennis) and the son won a tennis scholarship to university.
he hopes the daughter will follow in her brother's footsteps.. mr. officer mentioned that one saturday, after a particularly strenuous workout, he gave his daughter a bottle of red gatorade to drink.
he said she resisted drinking it at first, but he put his foot down and made her do it.. well, come sunday, he got an urgent message at work that he was to call home immediately.

Wow, that just brought back memories... When my time first started my mother was out of town so dear dad (also a policeman) had to give me the talk and get me the right "equipment"... Poor man, in retrospect, it must have been absolutely mortifying for him!

Deceptive or just wrong?
by johnnyc ini have been virtually non-stop studying everything i can get my hands on with regards the wtbts, and "apostate" literature and information.
in all honesty, 80% at least is non-sense and over critical.
however, i do find about 20% (if i have to create a percentage reference) is appropriate in its line of reasoning and questioning.

Speaking as a never-been-a-dub... If you have been grievously hurt by someone or something, and you feel you have been lied to and deceived, it is natural to attack and condemn that which caused you this anguish... You are quite right in saying that a lot of people are quite vociforous in their condemnation of the WTS, but I think the intent is honourable. I think that the intent of an active JW preaching door to door is usually just as honourable... It's a matter of perspective really. Those inside condemn those outside and vice-versa. Who is right? I believe that the folks here have more of the "truth"; the information they access is no longer controlled by the WTS, and most have learned how to think critically instead of blindly following the lead of the WTS.

Looking at a date other than 1975... If you have read any of the correspondence between the WTS and Carl Olof Jonsson in the 1970's, it is quite obvious that they chose not to investigate his claims or his extensive research. Is that deceptive or wrong?
