What does your congregation do socially now?
by truthseeker inif you're still in or hear about jw social activities through the grapevine, what does your congregation do now socially?.
my hall does absolutely - nothing - with the exception of high school graduations.
i read a few posts about jw socialising in the 70s and 80s and honestly, reading about it is completely foreign to me - i grew up in the 80s and never experienced the "good times" of jwdom.. it seems most people do their own thing.

Apostate Talk
by Wordly Andre inwhy is it that jw's are so afraid to talk to anyone who questions the beliefs, or in general says anything bad about the org.
case in point here i have a friend his family are all jw's not the best of the crowd but they are trying, anyway his brother and i were talking and i was telling him about how some of my cousins have left the org, and even showed him a funny picture of all of us wearing jehovah's witness protection program t-shirts there were about 7 of us in the photo.
he ended the converstation very rapidly and left.. i was not really telling him anything that bad, and i was just mostly joking with him, honestly i didn't think he was all that much of a jw, before he got married he lived with his gf, i have heard he likes to party, and for the most part you'd swear he wasn't a jw, not even baptized.

what was the one sound bite or comment that helped you see the light?
by siy inthis was a few years ago now, i was on the work one day with an elders elder.. you now the type!.
& he said this to me me (now i would love to know if you heard this one if its from a wt mag).
"how you are viewed by others (& so treated) is a reflection of how god views you".

Hecklerboy: They also thought excommunication had pagan origins but that did'nt stop them to start disfellowshipping and totally shunning...which is more harsh than excommunication.
I was df'd for immorality and when I started to do some research on the WTS I think the 1914 date and how Russell used pyramidology and astrology really made my jaw drop.

Why such boring & canned answers at the WT Study?
by navytownroger inback in th 1980s, the answers at the watchtower study & the book study seemed much more interesting.
more personal experiences that somehow related to the question being asked.
nowadays it seems all answers are just repeated from the text, or consist of reading a bible verse.

Zech 6: 1-7, mistake in NWT?
by wifekeepsmeinit inso i was reading the bible last sunday, as i didnt find the sunday talk interesting and found this interesting passage in zechariah 6:1-7.
1then i raised my eyes again and saw; and, look!
there were four chariots coming forth from between two mountains, and the mountains were copper mountains.2in the first chariot there were red horses; and in the second chariot, black horses.3and in the third chariot there were white horses; and in the fourth chariot, horses speckled, parti-colored.. 4and i proceeded to answer and say to the angel who was speaking with me: what are these, my lord?.

The New American Bible just says spotted horses. In verse 6 it says the black horses turned toward the land of the north and the red and white horse went after them. Spotted horses went towards the land of the south.

Shunned again
by tak inmy son called me yesterday, first time in probably 6 weeks, because he lost his car keys, the car is in my name, so i had to get another set from the dealership.
anyways, it doesn't really matter what he called about, it was just in 6 weeks he only calls because he needs something, not a peep before that (very hurtful).
a brother drove him to my office and it was quittin time so i went outside with him and gave him the keys, i was hurt and didn't say much to him.

Billy is right, Having the car in your name so he can have cheaper insurance is dishonest. Since your son wants to go by the book with WTS policy on shunning, then inform him that he should also go by the book on being honest in regards to his vehicle ownership and insurance.
