  Have you known dying persons to use the expression "going home"?

  a close relative of mine has reached the last days of their life and has been talking about "going home".

  this seems unusual when you consider that they have been a jw for many years and this would not seem to jive with their belief of being resurrected to live on the earth forever.

  i'll grant you that they have acted quite confused much of the time as they draw closer to their end.

  I wonder too if this person, in their confused state, has reverted back to their authentic self, and bypassed the cult programming.

  i'll start off.. i don't believe anything is divine about bible writings.

  i believe there may be some marginal history although not much.

  i think alot of folk tales and regional myths are contained in the old testament.

  I think all religious books have some teachings of value, some damaging teachings, some history, and a whole lot of myth.

  This seems unusual when you consider that they have been a JW for many years and this would not seem to jive with their belief of being resurrected to live on the earth forever.

  I'll grant you that they have acted quite confused much of the time as they draw closer to their end.

  They have also spoken of wanting to see their own long dead parents, who were never JWs.

  Also, when a non-JW relative who died a few years back was going through the same thing, they also spoke of "going home".

  At this point in my life I consider myself somewhere between agnostic and atheist.

  So I'd like to hear from all of you: have you experienced hearing dying persons use the expression "going home"?

  If you are Christian, feel free to preach what you believe this means.

  If you are atheist, feel free to take the wind out of the sails and give a rational explanation.

  And if you have some other ideas about the afterlife, such as reincarnation, I'd love to hear your thoughts as well.

  Personally, I find the phenomenon fascinating.

  It is a comforting thought for me that our natural intuition at the time of death is that we are journeying on to a better place, and that this is not the end.

  just heard from a friend that a nearby body of elders in their congregation have decided that anybody who is on facebook will not be able to have privleges in their congregation.. hilarious!.

  I told my daughter I was leaving "the truth" this weekend.

  last week, i told you i was going to tell my daughter that i was leaving the truth this weekend and you all gave me sound advice.

  but, i cannot keep a secret this heavy from the person i love most on this earth, my only daughter, who is beautiful inside and out.. well, i have always had an open and honest relationship with my daughter, and i guess it paid off.

  this weekend i visited my daughter (who lives in another state) and i told her i was leaving "the truth.

  Wow, Scott... thank you so much! Baba Yaga emailed me on Facebook and told me about this thread. It's good to be missed. I hope I can be here more often in the future. I have close family who is very sick right now and I have often been absent from the board because of this. I appreciate your concern!

  desire is the source of suffering, but zen can deflate your desires.. desire can make us want things, even when we know we don't really want them!.

  fear can debilitate our functioning, but zen can help pull the mask off the things that scare you most.. we are a society of worriers, but worry is an unproductive expenditure of energy.. once you determine your personal sources of dukkha (dukkha means suffering, or a deep feeling of discomfort and dissatisfaction), you can master your desires, fears, and worries with the regular practice of zazen (zazen means "sitting meditation") and a zen attitude.. .

  i always thought they were the most boring things i'd ever seen.

  a picture of someone preaching in a different land every month.. i always ended up hanging something far more entertaining, like an nfl calendar..
