can anyone point me towards wt quotes about the situation if a member of the immediate family who still lives at home is dfd?

i seem to recall a recent one where it stated that "normal family ties could continue, as long as spiritual matters were not discussed... the remaining members of the family would hold their bible study without the disfellowshipped one present.

" i would like a few different wt articles if possible.. it may come to this sometime next year.. i know i should do my own homework but i hate having to wade through long boring wt filth just to find the paragraph i'm looking for..

It seems that minor children are still to be tortured by Bible studies, but once they reach that magical age of 18 the rule does a complete 180 and they can't even be present at the bible study? Madness!

That's good enough for me! All the cards seem to be in my hand. I know what I need to do; I've known it for years. Now I just need to stop being such a pussy and do it. Who wants to motivate me? lol

i thought after recently reading the bible i would put up for disussion some recent scriptures up which for me show that jesus never viewed himself as god and anyone listening would also see it this way too.. first mark 10 :17-20.

IT seems you people who believe Jesus is God have a strange monotheism based on Jesus with a reluntant tagging on of Father and holy spirit who are like embarassing guests at a wedding to be tolerated but overlooked if possible when gasing at the Main attraction.

Again, you cling to the Washtowel's strawman definition of the trinity. Jesus, Jehoober, and the Holy Spook are not "3 seperate gods in one" as the WT likes to claim Trinitarians believe. They're all the same god (according to real trinitarians anyways) so worshipping the Son is the same as worshippign the Father which is the same as worshipping the Spirit. It doesn't matter what name you use.

(I hope I got that right, I don't even believe in god so I have no idea why I'm arguing about this madness.)

It seems to me that YOU have a strange polytheism in which you dedicate your life to the WTBTS, and you worship them with your works, but you worship Jehoober with your lips, and Jesus... well, he's a guy who lived a good life and "true Christians strive to imitate him", except for all that business about the blood transfusions and shunnings perverts and beards and rules and such, none of which he would have stood for, also he didn't go door to door preaching, so I'm not really sure how it is that JWs "imitate Christ", but hey he was just a man and the WTBTS is JEHOOBER'S REPRESENTATIVE ON EARTH so best do what they say!

Scholarly support for 607bce ?

i mentioned to a bro.

who is supposed to be answering some of my "concerns" with wt teaching that all the non-witness refs.i have seen to the fall of jerusalem place it twenty years later at 587-586 bce.. he maintains that some scholars support 607. does anyone know of a reliable scholar ,who is a recognised expert in this period,who does support 607 ?.

i am well aware that it makes no difference,as the bible nowhere gives us 2520 years,but i am fed up with his assertions and would like to blow this one out of the water so i can ask him to please check his facts.. only help if you really have time ,it's not life or death.. many thanks.

It must also be pointed out in the interest of intellectual honesty that scholars worldwide cannot agree on the precise date for the Fall of Jerusalem so it is only JW's who have determoned the precise date for the Fall of Jerusalem in 607 BCE.

Recently a thread was started about "godspotting". It is a hobby wherein non-believers attend a variety of church services, simply out of curiousity or an interest in sociology. Most "godspotters" are atheist or agnostic.

One of the aforementioned "godspotters" attended a couple of meetings. To my knowledge he had no previous experience with JWs and is not affiliated with any religious organization. Here are his thoughts:

I've been to a JW service or two. Long story.

They have the most boring services imaginable. They last for two hours and it's mostly like being at school, except instead of learning about science and history you're learning minutae regarding their interpretation of the Bible, and how to most effectively convince others that said interpretation represents objective reality. There's no mysticism, no ritual, nothing in any way interesting. Their speakers are rotating members of the church, so none of them are professional and they sound like community college professors delivering uninspiring lectures.

To my consternation, they never explain in any of their services the real nuances of the Bible. Like how you could take seriously a passage that suggests that a man could be so blind drunk that he didn't recognize his own daughters - but was still able to get it up and impregnate both of them. No, really .

They're a Seventh Day Adventist offshoot, so I imagine that's how the Adventists are too...
