SPELLINGE !
by wobble ini know i am an old fart and a pedant, but things spelled incorrectly stand out, like copy of c.o.c in a kingdom hall library.. i don't think it matters too much say, posting on here,or in life generally,so many people make mistakes, but i do think it detracts from your credibility and your message in important stuff i.e a d.a letter for example, any excuse and dub's will ignore what you say.. so,is it not worth checking?
one word that many on here have a problem with is apostasy, often putting a c where the last s should be.. is having a problem with this word a true example of irony?.
love.

So maybe the mind that excels at precision and rules struggles with creativity.
Can you raed tihs? Olny srmat poelpe can. I cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg. Americans should be proud about such pioneers. Many of my friends consider the US a 3rd world country when it comes to global warming issues.

Am I right that the possessive form of 3rd person 'it' is spelled its rather than it's as almost all posters do?

Anecdotal evidence for atheism
by hamilcarr inbelievers on this board repeatedly claim subjective experience as a major source for their belief.
this anecdotal evidence can't be checked by science because it falls outside the empirical realm.. what about atheism?
would it be possible that an atheist too has had a personal experience that convinced him of the non-existence of god?

I don't think so, because there is no objective criteria.
Strange you say this, coz you nailed it on the fabulous 'Nothing' thread. Dispersion of power (worth a thread of its own, sbf) is our objective criterion. The more power is centralized the more it's a metanarrative.
(Let it be a guideline for our political discussions, too OR where politics and religion meet)....

Nothing.
by Narkissos inperhaps this paradoxical "topic" is one with which we here have dealt a little more, or a little more consciously, than the average population.. we used to have our heads full of beliefs (which we called "truth") in every direction: on theology, on cosmology, on paleontology, on past history, on so-called prophetic future, on heaven above, on earth, on she'ol beneath.
on many things -- current events, traditions, other peoples' beliefs and behaviours -- we had strong opinions which were directly or indirectly (the famous "conscience" matters) part of the same deal.
and of course our life was filled with activities and relationships, a community of "friends," people to "help" or "teach," etc.. then, gradually or suddenly, we came to suspect, often with a measure of terror, that all of this was not what we had thought and might sooner or later turn into... nothing.. this "nothing" is perhaps one of the most scary thoughts to people contemplating leaving the org one way or another.

what I mean is I'm amazed at how much my thinking has been influenced by these sorts of discussions
Great to hear I'm not the only one. This is a very very great thread. Keep posting Narkissos and slimboyfat!

And who would want to perpetuate yet more existence in a meaningless world anyway?
I would. But, btw, who's talking about a meaningless world? What is meaning to you? I'm very glad my children won't have to go through what I've gone through: (lenghty discussions on the meaningless divine ).
