As a JW were You Told to Not Report or Be Silent about Child Abuse ?

as most of you know in 2002 barbara anderson and bill bowen were on the dateline program which revealed that child abuse victims had been theatened with disfellowshipping from the jehovah's witnesses for reporting child abuse to the police and authorities .

and this actually happened to many victims and their families for standing up in behalf of the safety of abused children !.

most here are aware of the out of court child abuse settlements the wt society made with 16 witness child abuse victims in 2007. a gag order was placed on victims so they would not speak of their experiences with the media.

Yes, we had a case in my old cong in Connecticut. It was incest between a brother and his little sister. I think she was around 8 and he was a teen. We were told to keep our mouths shut because Jehovah will take care of it in his due time.

So far lousy. He likes to make excuses for the ones who do not pay taxes. I can see finding one bad apple but not over and over and over again. Also, he likes to use scare tactics as far as this stimilus bill goes(if that is what they want to call it). It is more like a spending spree. He needs to take a course in economics 101 because what he has planned is not going to work. I can go on and on but whats the point. I wish him success but I have serious doubts.

as a jw we were taught ,"you recieved free, so give free", also the law was fullfilled and nailed to the torture stake.my question is, is it.

biblical to tithe(give 10% of what you have)?

also, i wonder if the wts said there was no need to tithe because in reality they wanted much more.

They use to talk about the poor widow who gave all that she had rather than from surplus which is how others gave. I believe the WTS loves to instill guilt in people. I know that when I was an active JW I felt guilty about everything.

My feelings toward smoking has nothing to do with the JW's. It is a disgusting habit. I grew up with both parents being heavy smokers and vowed when I grew up my home would be clean from the foul stench cig's and cigars produce. My mom would always have some sort of upper respiratoy infection. In fact, one time she had pneumonia and still not stop smoking.

My home is smoke free and I will not allow anyone to smoke in my car, house or even in my yard. When you smoke the stench is on your hands, clothes and in your hair. I will not associate with smokers on a personal level. Iam very allergic to smoke and prone to respiratory infections. If they come to my house they need to respect my health concerns.

there are a couple of things i'd like to know about you guys:.

** why does it seem that so many have wooden homes?.

** 401k - is this a pension plan of sorts & are you obligated to take one?.

As far as the material our home consists of it really depends on the region of the country you reside in. For instance, I live in Georgia which is in the southeastern part of the U.S. The majority of the homes are made of brick, some stucco and others a mix of stone and brick. I have a brick home.

Iam a very proud American and very thankful to live in this country. We have our problems too but it still has wonderful opportunites for those who are willing to work hard. I have traveled all over and as Dorthy said in the Wizard of Oz,"there is no place like home", which for me is the USA.
