That's what Satan wants you to think..........
by Vachi 8 He Is inwell what about what the gibbering body wants you to think?
if you have your copy of the december 2010 asleep magazine entitled "the truth about christmas" i invite you to take a look at the subliminal messaging in the picture on page 7. if someone could scan it into this thread that would help too, but i'll be descriptive about what the picture entails.
setting: 8 people in an office building at a christmas party.

Keeping my shields up is wearing me out
by Evidently Apostate insometimes i find myself carefully monitering a persons body language, whatching for instinctive reactions listening carefully to thier words.
just jws and some extended family, and almost anyone i do business with.
not out of fear but to find out if there is a selfish motive or agenda.

^ SD-7: Thanks!
It is hyper-vigilance.
This is useful in new situations, with new people, or with people you do not trust.
It is exhausting when done 24/7.
Hyper-vigilance can be a symptom of PTSD, which might be helped with professional counseling. It should ease up over time.

Is Forgiveness Overrated?
by leavingwt in.
is forgiveness overrated?.
if i'm being completely honest with myself, there is a short list of folks who i haven't forgiven.
-
VoidEater
Forgiveness is something you do for you.
It is not condoning, approving, understanding, or even accepting what was done.
It's simply the choice to not be controlled by the past.
...it is sometimes good to be guided py history to avoid repeating damaging situations - but you can set boundaries without being in emotional turmoil.

To those of Faith on here, a question.
by wobble inthose of you on here who are still believers in god or gods, do you feel that it is better to be like our dear shelby (aka a. guest) and others on here, and simply believe without reference to a religion or to a holy book ?.
or do you think we need to find a church and some holy writings ?.
the reason i ask is because i can accept and appreciate a pure faith position, belief without proof, apart from your personal experience, but i cannot see that any "religion" or church, or holy writings, has any claim to truth..

You do not need a religion or holy book. I find the most authentic belief can only come from a "personal creativity", as opposed to the adoption of someone else's dogma.

Observation -- Posters Don't Seem Clueless
by Band on the Run ini'm impressed with sophisticated thinking on this site.
after all it is an ex-witness site.
i wonder what changed in the former witnesses.

I was born in. While my emotional stability was severely stunted, I never bought 95% of the dogma.
I knew I was going to leave by the time I was 14 (I was baptized at 9), only went to occasional meetings by about 18, and stopped all participation by say 22 or so.
Higher education doesn't answer questions like "what's the purpose of life?, why we suffer etc?"
I would disagree. A liberal arts education, or taking philosophy courses, will give you so much more than any one religion.

My Story Part I - My Parents

it's a funny thing, time.
notwithstanding einstein's relativity, time means vastly different things throughout life.

Atheists Declare Religions as 'Scams' in New Ad

In the marketplace of ideas...
PS - actually, it's not like "all those atheists" - that's rather like saying "Religion predicts the end of the world in 1975", when actually a single small cult said it...

I'm not sure how long I can stay married to the Witnesses
by wifeofjw ini don't post often, but i lurk a lot.
i have fonund the information to be helpful and encouraging.. however, i'm not sure how much longer i can take being married to the jw's.. i have a wonderful husband, but he believes everything this cult tells him.
most recently he has decided that because the end is near we don't have to worry about our bills.

Can you really respect someone with so little integrity?
Someone that uses "religion" as an excuse to be irresponsible?

Its Just a Theory NOT ABOUT EVOLUTION
by peacefulpete inok and i'm serious, please no rabid flame war allowed on this thread.
please, they are not helpful at all.
i am posting this link to an article, apparently written in all sincerity, that insists that true science supports a geocentric universe and denounces all supposed evidence for the earth turning and revolving as just "theory".
-
VoidEater
There is too much observed evidence to support the notion that the universe revolves around the earth.
There is much better evidence that our solar system revolves around the sun.
I presume that "revolves around" is what is meant by "centric". I can't bring myself to read any more stupidity today. And yes I feel utterly confident in rejecting this particular bit of silliness without poring through it.
Of course, heliocentric cannot possible refer to the center of the universe, just as geocentric can't be seriosuly thought of as the center of the universe. Simply looking at the shape of our galaxy and our position within it gives an intuitive insight into how wierd this would be.

Is God LOVE ?
by wobble inthe concept that "god is love" comes, for christians, from the letters of john.. on another thread p sac.
said "god is love, reconcile that with...(the matter being discussed in the thread, babies in hell) and then get back to me".. my question is, was john saying that the god of scripture is "love" , for that is mighty hard to "reconcile", or was he saying that when we humans "love" we have found the divine ?.
-
VoidEater
I don't know who this "god" guy is most of the scriptures talk about. Not really important to me.
But in my experience, "God" is literally "love" - a direct correspondence.
