Blood transfusions for pets
by Heartofaboy inhas anyone had the experience of their pet being saved by a blood transfusion?.
a lovely down to earth couple in my old congregation allowed a transfusion for their dog when it developed life threatening complications after surgery.
lo & behold the transfusion did actually save the dog's life.

Beautiful words covering Blanket Judgement, and AVOIDING the question of this topic...
It may not be the answer you expected, but it's completely honest and applicable. Perhaps if you were to more artfully construct the question?

Oh, my, it's really quite hopeless...like watching Muhammad Ali on Jeopardy...you want the guy to win, but it's just a train wreck...
"Selection" requires no planning or forethought. A rock DOES select a path - by following the basic laws of physics for a falling object. It's not a conscious choice, but it is a select path.
"System", "organized" , "function", etc., are not linked to an intelligent mind - they are observed characteristics. Anything that relates to anything forms a system. Stamping your feet and insisting that form is always consiously designed doesn't make it so. PROVE it by something observable and we'll talk.
Rocks spewing from a volcano DO form a system - the rock and dust and steam and debris form a complex system called an explosion. The natural process that leads to it, the effects of it, the consequences of it, are all a system. Certainly you don't suggest God is making volcanos go boom?

JWOODS - Quit showing your ignorance. It's boring.
Yes, it is a crime to expose people to HIV without warning.
Yes, civilians get prosecuted. Google is your friend.
Yes, people of all orientations and economic classes get exposed. Funny how this is perceived as a "gay thing". I know straight people with HIV.
No, I would not have casual sex with anyone, regardless of HIV status.
Yes, I have had sex with HIV positive partners and I am HIV negative. Still. It's not like catching a cold. Or herpes.

My future has never been brighter. I'm healtheir and happier than I have ever been.
I am loved unconditionally, I have a life of service, I am free from superstition and mind control.
I am free from abuse, and from believing that such things are moral. I am free from having to look at the self-righteous gaze of those that protect molesters today.
Living in this moment, taking care of this moment, gives the future full freedom to blossom into beauty.

Can Spirituality Bridge the Science-Religion Divide?
by leavingwt incan spirituality bridge the divide between science and religion?.
writing in usa today, chris mooney argues that it can.. .
spirituality can bridge science-religion divide.

First off, science never tries to explain the "why" of something - merely the process of "what".
Religion, in it's more general usage, does try to answer the "why". If it kept to that, there would be less trouble in the world. Instead, it insists on being the end-all and be-all to all of life's questions. This leads to the monstrosity of some Christians claiming discrimination because other people won't do what they tell them (practicing your religion does not mean being free from opponents). Several weeks of therapy working on "boundary issues" is in order.
No, I don't see that spirituality (as I understand it) is a healing bridge, though it can help lead to a better definition of the function of religion and science. Once you break the fallacious tacit knowledge that belief in "something greater than you" is the same as belief in "sky daddy", then more options for individuals become available, and more room for tolerance results.
People access "something greater than themselves" in religious as well as secular contexts. Taking the sacramental brew and finding yourself a part of The Universe, and working for Habitat for Humanity and becoming a part of The Community, results in a similar experience. Spirituality, when defined "properly", becomes a common ground.
Kinda like social justice used to be across sectarian lines.

I accuse the body of elders that knew Brother Smith was a child molester of keeping quiet and doing nothing over decades, despite the rising body count.
I accuse the Governing Body of ruling by whim, and when changing their minds not forgiving those who trespassed in the past - but who could now do the same thing in good conscience.
I accuse the Governing Body of putting together a most bizarre, illogical, contradictory house of cards regarding the ever-changing Blood Issue.
I accuse the bodies of elders and members of the Service department who handled my father's case of gross negligence, pettiness, stupidity, devil-inspired mean-spiritedness, self-righteous sanctimony and general dumb-assness.
I accuse the Governing Body and its toadies down through the heirarchy of splitting my family to shreds for the past 35 years through it's shunning teachings.
No matter how cool you say your personal situation is, the larger organization is a cancerous blight on the face of humanity that needs to be thrown into the fiery lake of Gehenna.
My "group"? I'm a member of the Conscious Class.
Now...I hope you don't feel the need to exhonerate, defend or explain. I honestly don't give a rat's behind, and I barely took the time to respond to this baiting, sadomasochistic thread - I hope it gives you some sense of satisfaction, in whatever way that it must - I won't take the time to look back in. But thanks for the chance to type a few words of what I've experienced in 50 years, 4 states and too many congregations to count.
Of course, your mileage may vary - and I hope it does.

God tempts no one beyond their ability. 1 Corinthians 10:13.
There is no such thing as "tests".

Virtually EVERY foodstuff has a degree of contamination. Don't look in the flour you're baking with too closely. Yet here we are...
And, yes, the M&Ms are calling to me...sweetly...softly...

Could it possibly be true that YOU.......wish.....to be......FOOLED?!
by Terry inthere is an implicit pact between the magician and the audience.. .
an audience attending a magic act is in attendance for two main reasons.. 1.entertainment.
2.the desire to match wits with a puzzle and its solution and the determined effort to be amazed when this fails.. yet, above all else, the audience does not really wish to discover the secret.

The human psyche enjoys the suspension of disbelief.
For some, this becomes a way of life, an obsession, an addiction.
