Wow, a gift in the form of a "free" night! Don't you know there's no such thing as a "free lunch"? I learned that in Basic Economics. So get back to work! Use your gift in the service of Jehovah!
Satanus, that used to bother me, too. I knew that, even though it was a conscience matter, you were still not free to do whatever it was. The guilt was still there.

6. In this prophecy, the Servant speaks of his Father as "the Sovereign Lord Jehovah." This shows that the Servant had learned the fundamental truth of Jehovah's universal sovereignty.
If the issue of "universal sovereignty" was so important, why was it not the focus of Jesus' ministry? Are those two words ever found in the New Testament? Did Jesus ever teach his disciples the "fundamental truth" of "Jehovah's universal sovereignty"? After all, JW's teach that this is the true issue at hand, and not the wonderful ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Would the elders wash your feet on the memorial night? Why don't they ?
by moomanchu inthey try to do everything else so absolutely correct and perfectly matching on that night.. jerusalem is shrouded in the soft light of dusk as the full moon rises over the mount of olives.
in a large furnished room, jesus and the 12 are reclining at a prepared table.
"i have greatly desired to eat this passover with you before i suffer," he says.

The Holy Spirit didn't get an invitation? That's not right. Very insulting.
You think that's not right. Try inserting the "spirit-directed organization" into the baptism questions. Now THAT'S insulting!
No, I don't believe the elders would wash my feet. Frankly, I would find that just a little disturbing. Wasn't this a custom for the Jews?

Luke 21:8 and the latest 2008 WT Library
by civicsi00 ini was perusing the latest 2008 wt library and i ran a search for luke 21:8 (one of the worst texts you could read to a jw).
when i first ran the search, the library only popped up with one article from 11/1/64 wt and a reference to some book called the kingdom of god is nigh (published by the wt in 1944, but is not found on the cd.
i did find it on the internet, though.).

I agree, BluesBrother. If you try to show them that text and point it at THEM, they won't see it. As the years go by, I can see the WT staying away from setting dates for the end, and the longer time passes, the harder it may be to prove they are false prophets (a JW could reason, "Oh that was such a long time ago, we don't set dates any more" or "it was the brothers at the time who became overzealous over a date").
Although I don't have any conclusive evidence that the WT has tampered with the search engine, I'm going to continue researching this. Does anyone remember how they tampered with their own WT Index to hide the fact that they used Greber for Biblical support? I wouldn't put it past the WT to tamper with their own CD.

((Edited to try to fix the formatting...))
Below are the 3 quotes I found. Conspiracy or not, well, I do believe the WT would intentionally hide things, even on the CD.

I was perusing the latest 2008 WT library and I ran a search for Luke 21:8 (one of the worst texts you could read to a JW). When I first ran the search, the library only popped up with one article from 11/1/64 WT and a reference to some book called The Kingdom of God is Nigh (published by the WT in 1944, but is not found on the CD. I did find it on the internet, though.)
I believe other people on this forum have noticed that the Society does not normally quote from Luke 21:8 for obvious reasons.
Now for the strange part:
I then typed "due time has approached" in the search engine for the WT library and I was able to find 3 more references to Luke 21:8! The WT used this text in the 10/15/90 WT, 2/15/94 WT, and even as recently in the 4/08 Awake magazine.
My question is, how is it that the search engine doesn't find these other, more recent, references? These other references clearly have "Luke 21:8" typed out next to the verse. Does the WT deliberately tamper with the WT CD search engine so you can't find certain things?
(I realize it's really late now...so I'm going to sleep...)

Have any of you just handed the book COC to a jw friend or relative?
by cawshun inif so, how did it go over, good or bad?

After my father-in-law started seriously questioning the blood doctrine, I ordered a copy of COC and gave it to him. He read it and it set him free.
The hardest part is getting them to think for themselves. Nothing I, or my wife, ever said mattered..
So what made him start to think for himself? A so-called "worldly" person. She was a nurse in a hospital, and she asked why JW's state they refuse blood transfusions but at the same time they accept blood fractions. She told him it was all the same in the end. That was a defining moment when he couldn't explain it himself.
Since then, he has confronted several brothers, including elders, but he has not been D/F.

motivations for creating the "Jonadabs"
by drew sagan ini know that shortly after rutherford dismissed the idea that the new covenant was only for the jews (as taught by russell) he eventually began to formulate his new doctrines of how he felt it did apply to people.
but i'm a little lost as to why exactly he chose to create this doctrine.. what were some of the deeper motiviations rutherford had in creating this doctrine?
i flipped through pentons book but he really doesn't get into it.

The "Jonadab" doctrine came about to try to explain who the great crowd really was. Russell had already taught and believed that there were two classes of Christians, but it was Rutherford who nailed it down to non-anointed, earth-bound Witnesses.
I sincerely believe Rutherford (and likely Fred Franz at the time) was just making stuff up when he wrote these things. Just read some of his books (Vindication, Preservation, Enemies, Riches, etc.) and you'll see they're filled with types and anti-types and that Zechariah represented the future "slave" class, or that Ruth represented something else. It was, and still is, all garbage.
If you have the Revelation book (Grand Climax at Hand), read paragraph 4 on page 120 of the 2006 edition. It explains a little bit about Jonadab and that he foreshadowed the great crowd.
The WT loves to point out that everything in the Bible has led up to the "slave" class now present. How much more presumptuous can you get?? They have gone way beyond the things that are written and they try to take the place of Jesus Christ himself.
