New annual report due soon - what do you expect???
by The Scotsman inhi folks.
the annual report will be out in a month or 2 and was wondering what you think the current state of affairs for the org will be.. i am not expecting a decrease - but would love to see one.
as is normal each year a few countries will be showing a decline.. i know in a few congs near me that quite a number of pubs are going out less - a gradual slow down.

nine pages of BS from October AWAKE
by purplesofa ini hope that some of you lurkers out here really take a look at some of the thread in this section of the board.
this awake magazine says not one thing about how families are asked to trust their elders and how these very elders were and are abusing their children.
it mentions nothing about watching out for these trusted men in the congregations.............oh it brings out the internet, other family members and fathers and males in particular.. it will tell you how much your child needs to do to prevent something like this from happening.

The contents is not actually BS but it is hypocrisy and leaves some things out.

6 Die From Brain-Eating Amoeba in Lakes
by Elsewhere inhttp://www.physorg.com/news110255496.html.
it sounds like science fiction but it's true: a killer amoeba living in lakes enters the body through the nose and attacks the brain where it feeds until you die.
even though encounters with the microscopic bug are extraordinarily rare, it's killed six boys and young men this year.

WTB&TS in Germany Gets Tithes...
by prophecor in..... ....directly from your wallet if you are one of jehovah's witnesses.
it appears according to governmental regulations in germany allow for the fleecing of its adhereants, directly thru levies and tithes, taken from thier members wallets via the government, without having to ask, anymore.
see section ii, paragraphs 1,2 and 3 of this document.

Just to put things straight: the churches in Germany do not get 9% of your income. They get depending on the federal state 8% or 9% of the tax paid on your income. JW do not get a church tax but they could if they wished.

jw Massage therapist
by carla inwhat is the deal with this?
it seems i hear more and more about some jw woman who is a massage therapist.
i can't think of a more unseemly occupation for a jw woman that is legal.

In one of the congregations I attended, there was an Elder that was a Massage therapist at Mercedes-Benz (yes, they had their own in-house massage-therapist).

The verdict of the highest German court has the signature 1 BvR 498/62 and is of Oct 4th, 1965. You find the whole German text on this Swiss university server: http://www.servat.unibe.ch/law/dfr/bv019129.html
The text states at §III, Sec.2, Sentence 2:
Die Beschwerdeführerin macht geltend, sie könne die Körperschaftsrechte jederzeit erlangen, lehne es nur aus Gründen des Glaubens und ihrer religiösen Überzeugung ab, einen entsprechenden Antrag zu stellen, der die Verleihung der Körperschaftsrechte und damit die Umsatzsteuerfreiheit zur Folge habe.
My poor translation:
The complainant argue that they could get the status of a public body at any time but just refuse due to reasons of belief and religious creed to file a corresponding request that would result in the granting of the rights of a public body and by means of this would grant exemption from VAT.

The WTS had a printery in Wiesbaden before they moved to Selters in the 80s. However, actually there was a legal case in the 60s or 70 when the WTS did not want to pay VAT. The court said they had to, otherwise they could applie for that public body status. The WTS replied that this status was against their belief! With this status they have some advantages with real estate, too, like building kingdom halls in living areas instead of industrial areas.

>But how do they know which religion to give the 9% to?
In Germany, you have to register with financial department to which church you belong if the church does raise a church tax. You cannot choose, if you are Catholic, the Catholic church tax will be taken by the state and given to the church (with a small service fee for the state.

Hi there. Yes Gopher is right. In Germany, churches that are registered as a public body can use the state as a "collection agency". If (!) the church has a church tax it can be cashed by the state. But since the JW have no church tax (yet?) there is no cashing.
