What I have noticed is that every person has something “personal” or specific that makes them “wake up”. At least 9 of my personal friends know that the Organization is deceiving us. And each one had a different way of “awakening”.

In my case, as in my wife’s case, was noticing that 607BC was not the date of the destruction of Jerusalem what made us think. I’ve heard that date for 33 years, and when I started looking, ALL the encyclopedias and books that I’ve read says 587/586. Why is this important?

If 607BC is wrong, that makes 1914 a lie, and the appointment of the Governing Body in 1918 a fairy tale. Period. They were not “appointed over anybody’s belongings”. GB is a lie.

Another friend woke up because of the blood/fractions issue. Another found that the sisters were treated as 2nd class citizens, and started researching the WT Library CD… and ordering CoC from Ray Franz!! J (You know who you are!!)

It’s nice to know that there is many people posting their stories here. It really helps!

Hello Guys!

Today I noticed that I've been in JWD for a whole year. Time goes so fast!

I still remember how I felt the day I suscribed: terrorized! I thought that I was sinning against the Holy Spirit! I was an Elder in good standing at that moment. Here in this forum, I was finding all the answers I was looking for. I was so shocked to find so many people with my same doubts about the BOrg!

What really impressed me was that most people were not "bitter apostates". Many helpful friends started appearing and sending me PM's and comments: Truthsearcher, OpenMind, Blondie, Outofthebox, Mouthy, Mary... you know who you are, and how you helped me. Especially when I was trying to "wake up" my wife.

Reading this forum I've learned sooo many things. I kept researching the archives for months, reading the bible and studying. Also, during this year, I had the opportunity of meeting Ray and Cynthia Franz. I never imagined that I was going to became an "apostate"!!! But a happy one.

Right now my wife and I are completely disconnected. I'ts been a terrible "bumpy" ride, and we have lost some "friends" in the way, but we have found people like you: supporting, understanding and NORMAL!!!

What do you feel is the reason the WTS succeeds in retaining its members?

by RULES & REGULATIONS in

most of my family have been members since the early 1970's.they attend 3 meetings per week,fly or drive to summer assemblies,preach the average 10 hours per month,and read the same boring watchtower magazine week after week.

the congregation has lost nearly all the young teens,many have quit attending all the meetings,some divorced,and some members just going thru the motions.

i'm never going to question them on why they still remain members but shouldn't all the promises of "this generation never dying" make them question the wts.... just a little?

Fear, Guilt, and keeping people numb by the "no higher education policy":

Fear: "Everything is bad outside the organization. You can't have doubts about the GB... you can be sinning against the Holy Spirit". "You are going to die in Armaggedon if you don't go preach door to door"...

Guilt: "I'm not doing enough in the ministry", "Jehovah is not going to bless me and my family if I miss the meetings"

No higher education = no development of your thinking skills. The easiest way to subdue people is by maintain them dumb.

I don't understand how I believed this all my life. Now I understand why my self-esteem was so bad...
