whilst reading this my 11 year old son was looking over my shoulder, and reading along with me, some of the discussion was quite adult but respectful .
so i began thinking what age would you discuss these things?
Open Mind - from infancy only if appropriate imo
Maddie i agree that children do vary in maturity therefore we need to be aware how mature they are, the corollary of that is we must communicate and thereby understand them, our children.
Momz The coming out of your sister shows the need to think about this, as we are more aware of, and likely to knowingly meet gay people..

yeah i agree they are smarter and more than i was. it was hardly ever discussed when i was young
say what, I hear what u say about waiting for them to bring the subject up but what happens if they do not ask?
I would like to know some of what they are thinking

Came inot the truth at 18 got married at 19. I left truth, she is still in, The reasons for being together are no longer there except two children 11 & 14 who are gorgeous.
So been there, done that, planning on moving on at the right time. My wife is still lovely however we have little in common

don't get me wrong i am not slighting the incarceration of j. witnesses in the concentration camps but i recently read an article in the wacktower about the suffering endured in the concentration camps.. thanks were profusely given to jehovah and for the fortitude of the brothers and sisters during that terrible time but glaringly not one word of thanks,not one word in recognition of what the allies sacrificed and did was mentioned .no mention at all of any soldier ,sailor or airman laying down their life to rescue the inmates of those hell holes.. do the governing body really believe that no thanks are called for on behalf of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice ?
how can anyone show respect for that crazy cult .do they really believe that jesus is going into battle on their side when they so disregard what others have done for them ?
according to their twisted logic god is going to destroy those veterans who are now old who way back when came to the rescue..
My dad was on the D Day landings 2800 of his regiment went out about 800 returned. He saw Dresden and the c,c, camps. Hardly ever spoke about it, he said bad enough being there!

i can mend from a broken bone much easier than from a broken sprit.. they say "actions speak louder than words", but we are trapped in cyber space where all we have are words.. so if our words are cruel, we have no body language or eye contact to soften the blows.. i do appreciate some concialiatory gestures i've seen around here.

there's alot being said on here now about the need for everyone to get along.. i used to think that was a goal worth striving for.. but is it realistic?.
is it even desirable?.
i still find myself telling people what they want to hear, on here and in my personal life, in business too.. it's a bad habit.. it generally produces nothing positive in the long run.. but we all want to please others.. that comes from being jw's, but it's by no means unique to our our jw past.. another thing, definitely jw-related, is that we were taught that unity should be preserved at all costs.. comments are even made on here that our "community" is "falling apart".. all we share in common is that we were or are jw's (with a few exceptions).. and our reasons for no longer being associated are many and varied.. some left on their own.. some "drifted away".. some were kicked out.. some studied but dodged the bullet and were never baptized.. some are now atheists.. some are now "spirit-filled" christians.. some don't care about religion or politics.. some care alot.. to expect unity and "we all love each other" from such a diverse group can only lead to disappointment, imo.. i want to thank hillary-step, and few others, for pointing something like this out to me a long time ago.. many of us have made good friendships here, but it's fair to say that we're not all going to be friends.. .
I do not like confrontation but will face it necessary
I also like Hilary's way of arguing, firm but not rude. I really do not like rudeness and generally find very little here
I am much more honest since I left the wts, partly because i am no longer living a lie.
I think honesty and kindness are sometimes uncomfortable bedfellows, but good for each other.
