Do people still allow kids to trick or treat? Most have "Fall Festivals" before Halloween. (Many Evangelicals have stopped officially celebrating Halloween and replace them with these Scarecrow, hayrides and pumpkin festivals. Most are sponsored by churches and schools)

with all the strange people out there, is the watchtower society contributing to dangerous situations with their manner of preaching?
at least, the mormon's go two by two with young men.. some large cities have apartments up dark stairways and many neighborhoods are not even safe during daylight hours.. outaservice .

The "Ebonics" thing was an attempt to gain more money for a veryvery run down school in Oakland, CA. The argument was that more tax money went to schools that had large amounts of students in ESL classes (Spanish, Korean, etc) so if "Ebonics" was classified as a second language the school could recieve more funds for material, teachers and repairs.I visited the school myself after the controversy and it was in deplorable condition. I would not send my kids or suggest anyone else kids to it, the celling had collapsed in many of the rooms. VERY VERY BAD!
I do feel that Jesse Jackson made an adze of himself over this. (it is this behavior that has caused this thread) He should of said, "Hey the celling is falling! and the state of California and the city of Oakland should be ashamed of itself" He should have admonished the "black" community of Oakland for not promoting Standard English and encouraged them to end this vicious cycle of ignorance and under-education. He should have promoted the ideas of empowerment through education and change.

Whoa yall,
Let's consider this. While there still is pre-intergration racial division in Louisiana (anyone who has visited or lives near this state knows that they consider it their business and to butt out). all of these people choose to live and raise their children in this kind of town, this kind of culture. I think that says a lot about the entire population of Jena.
Further this blog is suppose to be about Sharpton and Jackson and the fact that majority of the general public consider these two to be a hinderance and bafoons of their own making. Why? It seems that anything these two attach their names to automatically becomes a "its racism" issue. Why is it always a case of racism to them? Was it really a matter of racism in the Duke team thing? NO but thanks to Sharpton and Jackson it was made one. Was Imus really a case of racism or some old guy trying to look hip? I think and most would agree it was the latter. And thanks to Sharpton he lost his job for speaking in a slang that has been glamorized and heard daily on MTV and BET and in general by the entertainment industry. Jackson and the "ebonics" debacle and he recently accused Sen. Obama of "acting white" which he meant as a racist slur! Since none of us seem to be able to get the 911 on young Bell's records we are all jumping to uninformed conclusions about the fairness of his sentence. (though I have stated before and I stand by the idea of a community healing and forgiveness with the Jena 6's parents paying for the medical bills incurred as a result of this beating)
One post already stated the noose thing was common on the school ground for other purposes (pep ralley) and that the FBI investigated. The principle tried to expel and the school board voted against it. They suspects were suspended.
I am disappointed in some who are blogging this topic creating a us/ them thing. Hello this is a site for JW's and X-JWs..it is likely we all have experienced discrimination if not outright hatred. If we divide ourselve here on this site racially then we are no better then the very people we are discussing (and sad to say JUDGING when the only facts we have are limited).

NO! not even with other Witnesses! My children don't even go to the bathroom in the KH by themselves!
We had a convicted Pedo in our KH Bookstudy and the Bookstudy Conductor knew nothing about it! ( I should state that the man never spoke to anyone, never used the bathrooms, came at the start of the study and left immediately after the prayer.) It was the look of fear, anger and surprise I saw in the Bro Conductors eyes that confirmed my protectiveness. I believe only 2 Elders in the Congo knew and they didn't think to tell the Bookstudy Conductor (who has children too)! Shameful. They should just announce Bro or Sis SO& SO is a registered Sex Offender. "We do not condone their past actions but as Christians want them to draw close to Jesus and God." Please treat Associate SO & SO with civility. Then the Pedo should keep respectful distances as the above one did! I live in Texas and our Caesar says once a danger always a danger so if someone has committed this crime they wear a scarlet P in the sense that they have to register and have their picture plastered all over town. In fact that would be a great idea forget Purple Triangle....Lavendar P's to warn parents. Also absolutely no privileges and no FS! Just sit quietly and then leave. Greatful you haven't been tarred and feathered. Harsh maybe but the victims sufffers a lifetime why not them too!

What ever are you refering to? Who are you identifying as haters or posts within this topic that are to be considered hateful? I disagree wholeheartedly about your comments about MLK, he never behaved in manners as either of those two. MLK would hear all the fact before announcing injustices. I do believe the dear Reverend would side with Mr Cosby ideology. Any opinions here on Sharpton and Jackson are because of their past stances. Fights happen and boys of all color in most school district now go off in hand cuffs with the officers regardless of who started it. As for this particular incident the issue is the 6 vs 1. Had it been 1 vs 1 I doubt anybody outside of Jena would have heard about it. To broadly say that black boys are not given benefit of the doubt is wrong. If this true in your area, then ask yourself what you are doing personally to change this negative. What can others do? Have you spoken to your police chief? Have you spoken to the school superintendent? Have you ask for help from local journalists to verify such a racial discrepency? Asking a cop that question varies depending on the perceived criminal intent as well as area of the country. For instance in El Paso the answer would be Hispanic. Not that race has anything to do with it so much as abundance of population. In my town mostlikely it would be white, mid 40's and drunk as a skunk. That is statistics not race. Yes I there are plenty of white on white crimes shown on "cops" and on "Mad Dog:The Bounty Hunter".
Finally ADHD or ADD: any parent of a male child, please read Leonard Sax "Why Gender Matters" it is a very good read. I don't agree with the idea of holding a male child back so they are 6 in kindergarten (I think that should be an individual case by case not a broad rule) but as far as things like hearing difference between girls and boys ....he is spot on.
Side note....girls have more "ear hair" and therefor hear better, they also have 3 sets points of communication on their brains for the right and left side to interact. Boys only have 1 set.

I have read Sowell and as a Southerner I feel he carries much disdain stemming from his early experiences in the south (think Jim Crow laws) and writes at time with bias. I am not saying he doesn't have some points. I agree with his ideas that White "liberals" serve their own political and ideological interests by encouraging counterproductive attitudes, while making excuses for self-destructive behavior and promoting the belief that "racism" is the cause of all woe in the black community. I agree these groups of liberals encourage the glamorization of "ghetto culture" as being viewed as authentic black culture. All of this in the end keeps a majority of the black population from finally doing what all other cultures, ethnicity, races did before them....ASSIMILATING into the Greater American Society (i/e the great melting pot). It is proved true time and time again that UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL
Wake up my black brethern. You are being duped, and men within your society are selling you out for their personal gain.
