I wonder what those folks on Jupiter did to deserve all those raging storms several earth-sized planets in size, lasting several hundred years. Some serious sinning been going on over there.

Hurricane Dean and JW's.
by integ inwhile the wtbs is no doubt scrambling about at bethel; frantically searching the scriptures in an effort to attach some prophetic meaning to this latest hurricane in the caribbean, and how it somhow relates to the importance of stepping it up in the ministry, how much time do you think they will spend on plans to help their fellowman?.
i am sure we will all hear b.s such as " this just shows how we are in the last of the last of the last days".. but oh by the way, make plans for our international convention in 2009..

If you think it's "possible" for extraterrestrials...
by FreedomFrog inwhy would you feel it's not probable for spirits or ghosts?.
my question came when i read this thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/140402/1.ashx.
i was reading the thread from auldsoul and i couldn't help but wonder this question.

I think I would ask myself the questions this way:
-What reasons do I have for believing angels or demons exist?
-What reasons do I have for believing 'aliens` exist?
Having experience with physical life on planet earth, and knowing how many stars and planets there are out there (not the exact number, but that there are a lot, to say the least), it wouldn't be illogical for me to believe 'aliens' might exist, if life has a tendency to arise under the right conditions in this universe. I don't think I'm as optimistic about that as many others though; I think life here could very well be a one-off event, especially the kind of life we see here. On the other hand, we may live in a universe where everything is just right for life to start and thrive (under the right conditions), and if so, even intelligent life may be abundant out there. The very recent discovery that 'space dust' forms helices under weightless, vacuum conditions may point to that (well, maybe not but we'll see - it's interesting at least).
As for a universe "built for life", I'd like to borrow an illustration, or parable if you will, from Douglas Adams (paraphrase) : Let's say you gave life to a puddle of water on a dirt road somewhere. The water comes to life, looks around itself and says: " Wow - it's amazing how everything around me is created to fit me perfectly! Had this hole I'm in been just a little pebble stone different, I wouldn't have fit in it! "
In other words; the environment is not adapted to suit us, we are adapted to suit our environment. Everything seems to be made exactly as it has to be for life to exist, but one could instead say that if things had been different to such a degree that life couldn't exist, we wouldn't have been here to talk about it. It's a full reversal of the thought pattern of someone who believes everything is created. Another thing is that it isn't necessarily so that the environment has to be as it is on earth for life to start. It would perhaps not be life as we know it, but could still be life.
I do not categorically deny that angels or demons may exist though - just as I don't categorically deny that dragons may exist. I just don't have any experience with dragons other than what others have once described, but if evidence of their existence would surface, I would believe. Well - I would know, which I guess may be different. On the other hand, I'm sure those who claim to have had real experiences with angels or demons 'know' they exist too - they don't believe they've had an experience, they know they've had an experience.
I do not categorically deny that 'aliens' may exist. My own experience with life (knowing that it exists, for one) tells me it is possible. Inhabiting this globe in this solar system and galaxy, we would be 'aliens' to any other potential life forms out there. If we'll ever see any of them, is another story. They would have to invent some pretty impressive technology first I think, like machinery with the ability to manipulate spacetime. The distances are just too vast. Then again - this is with our current knowledge of things.

"Anti Christ" on video!

Well - he's actually claiming to be Christ, not anti-christ; or rather that "anti-christ" has been a mistranslation meaning the second Christ (second coming).
If he could raise the dead, heal the sick, walk on water or similar supernatural things in a controlled environment (not a scene put up for an illusionist), then we'd have something. Modern Messiah's can't though, for some reason. But hey - he proved it once two thousand years ago, so no need to prove it again, right? There you have it. Follow this man. He must be right.

Dinosaurs! How were they explained (away)?
by DeusMauzzim indinosaurs are a bit of an embarrassment for the watchtower.
what did you hear about them?.
- were they a 'creative' experiment by god?.

Have some fun with this folks!
- I get mentally fatigued while reading that. I simply can't be bothered refuting it.
Kent Hovind is a great advocate of the views of answersingenesis.org. He's got a PhD and everything [in the interest of honesty I should mention that he has had quarrels with AiG over his 'theories', but all in all he propegates their Bible based creationist views].
Sadly, he's in jail now for tax evasion, but while we wait for more of his brilliant lectures, we can have a look at this:

They were all herbivores, though.
I also heard the "giant fertilizer" hypothesis. Funny how God created the entire universe, but needed to create something else in order to produce fertile soil. Why not just say " 'Let there be fertile soil', and it was so.' " ? And wouldn't He have had to create plants for them to eat first anyway? And wouldn't the plants need fertile soil? Chicken or egg? But OK - I'm not sure this has ever been stated as a 'theory' be the Watchtower, so it's a bit of a strawman perhaps.
I'm sure the Tyrannosaurus Rex who bit the Triceratops said "Ooops, sorry - I thought you were a tree branch." afterwords (yes, they've found Triceratops skeleton parts with T-Rex bite marks).

Your favorite bits of JW folklore
by B_Deserter inwe all hear stories an experiences that happened to a "friend of a friend," and the witnesses are no exception.
they even have their own urban legends.
here are my favorites, and please post yours as well.. 1. watchtower theologists according to one of the old guys i used to pioneer with, there is a super-scary-secret organization of apostates called "watchtower theology.

Not so much JW folklore, but I remember something really bizarre my mother told me when I was a kid, and I'm certain it had something to do with her being such a devout JW. She told me that astronauts had tried to get to outer space, but when they did, they discovered a flaming wall, which prevented them from going any further. I think the point was that God would stop us from exploring space. I have absolutely no idea where she got this from, and how she could believe it as an adult. It was not told as a joke. Unfortunately, if I were to ask her about it now, she would probably say she don't remember saying anything like that. If more people have heard of it, maybe it is (or was) JW folklore after all. I think she must have gotten it from some JW source, perhaps she just misunderstood something she had read in a book or magazine.

SPACEDUST POSSILE ORIGIN OF LIFE
by badboy inspacedust is able to form into a helix, suggesting it is the origin of life.

Nevertheless, this new finding is interesting, to say the least.
But I see what you mean; if these helixes form in the weightless vacuum of space, and earth was formed there as well, why would we need outside sources for this to have occurred?
[edited]Thinking a little more, I may have to revise my above statement - but it's late here so I'm going to bed and perhaps my brain works better in the morning. We'll see... [/edited]

I remember a local, true story (true in the sense that it happened; it's the why and how that's questionable): A pioneer sister was having some financial trouble (shocker!), and she was about a hundred dollars short. She prayed, and sure enough - not long thereafter (a day to a week), the exact amount she was short turned up in an envelope in her mailbox! It must have been God; couldn't possibly have been one of her friends who had discovered exactly what she needed and decided to help out, no strings attached.
I can't help but feel God could have given her a little more - why the exact amount? Is He cheap?
