Looked at from the standpoint of probability alone and based on what we collectively know or more correctly about what we think we know, I believe the answer from a scientific point of view is yes most likely there is life elsewhere in the cosmos. The majority of NASA scientists studying that possibility are very much convinced of this and to that end NASA is using some of its vast resources searching for signs of this life (i.e. the SETI program). That said however, the likelihood that we would be able to discover the existence of such life in our lifetimes, and in particular sentient life, is quite improbable. Still we try because it truly would be the greatest discovery in all human existence, well a close second anyway to beer.

Is there life on other planets?
by JH indo you believe that there is life right now on other planets?
how can we be alone since the universe is endless?
if god does exist, why did he create all of that, if man will never go there?

What Results When JW's Associate ONLY With Fellow JW's?
by minimus ini clearly see that jw's are constantly being told to only associate with fellow believers if at all humanly possible.
there is to be either no association or at the minimum, very little socializing with non-witnesses.
in your opinion, what does this produce?
-

Minimus, What it produces is arrested social development and the inability to deal with life as it really is. By cutting oneself off from the rest of the world you are creating an artificial existence and if you ever have to venture out from this biosphere, you will find you are ill-equipped to deal with reality. Further, by denying oneself social interaction with 99.99 percent of the planet’s population based entirely on religious prejudice, you are sowing the seeds of intolerance, aloofness, superiority, and possibly a cycle of hate to be passed on to your progeny.

WoMD ... so where are they?
by Simon innow, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!
perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.
now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.

If people want to bash Bush and company over the issue of WMDs, please do so if this makes you feel better, however please do it for the right reasons, not because of some political poppycock.
When I hear people chiming in with things like there never were any WMDs or that Saddam was never really a threat to the US or his neighbors, I truly don’t know weather to laugh or cry. Part of me wants to laugh because of the overwhelming evidence of the growing threat that this regime posed to the world and his own people is so abundantly clear to even the blind so as to be joke to say otherwise. The part of me that wants to cry sees how blinded people become when they get emotionally involved defeating political opponents a nd onsequently lose all perspective .
Put another way: Why do I know that the preponderance of the known evidence is that Saddam had WMDs and more importantly had several ongoing weapons programs before the start of the war?
Why is it that I can click my browser and find all sorts of creditable sources of information attesting to this fact? More importantly, why is it that some can’t or will not do the same?
Jason seems to have nailed a point that most have missed:
Finding the WMD just means that we can breath easier. There is less chance they are in the hands of terrorists. There is no reason the believe that they do not exist. If Rummie allowed them to slip out of the country that will be what I will be enraged over. It's going to take years before I am easy about this. I'm not going to accept that they don't exist just because the BBC and the other left news media says so.
The question is not DID SADDAM HAVE WMDs, the question is WHAT BECAME OF THEM AND IN WHO’S HANDS ARE THEY NOW?
If Bush and company have let political concerns get in the way of making an early military decision to take these weapons out of Saddam’s hands and because of that delay said weapons are now in the hands of terrorists or other unfriendly type people, then IMHO Bush should be impeached at the very least. I really hope this is not a reality as that would truly be a nightmare for everyone. The possibility does exist however because as you will recall, Bush and company were making nice nice with UN and member nations trying to get everyone onboard. This gave Saddam ample time to dispose of his arsenal one way or the another. If he truly destroyed it as at least one of his scientists has said then that would be fine, but if he gave it to others, God help us all!

I don’t care what Russell says, I’m still an idiot for ever joining this group of wackos in the first place, and even more of an idiot for staying with them for years afterwards!

This was a deliberate and somewhat successful attempt to turn on long dormant genes, however sometimes in nature these genes get turned on without any coaxing from man. Such is the case of whales found with legs.
In addition to the mountains of fossil evidence to suggest that whales once walked on land, there have been so-called “freaks of nature” in modern times that clearly show this to be true. If you do a little research, I believe you can not only find documentation of whales in modern times manifesting vestigial external legs but also photos of such examples. Freaky stuff indeed, but fully expected and predicted by evolution itself. So much for each according to his kind. Of course such examples are “as rare as hens teeth” as the saying goes.

What changes did you make in order to become a JW?
by JH indid you have to make big efforts in order to become a jw?
were there many bad habits that you had to abandon in order to meet the criterias of the watchtower?

I lost the long hair, the beard, a lot of girlfriends and the nukie that goes with that, the 2 pack a day cigarette habit (the only good thing I lost), a hi paying defense related job, my playboy/penthouse collection, my pot plants, all the holidays and getting together with my family. I’ve got to stop now; this is starting to piss me off!

Why we can't afford tax cuts
by SixofNine inrepublicans and democrats have distracted us with unending battles between haves and have-nots for decades.
over the same period, they have bankrupted the country.
perhaps that terror, not currency traders or al-qaeda, may explain the odd market decline after a tax cut that was supposed to make stocks soar.

Funny thing about tax cuts, when done correctly, particularly when the marginal rates are cut, they tend to increase revenues to the treasury overall. Tax cuts don’t seem to care about what the so-called experts say because they have a history of working to bring in more revenue every time they are cut, even when such cuts are condemned by these experts. Another funny thing about tax cuts to stimulate the economy and bring in more revenue is that it seems to work no matter which political part does it. It worked when Kennedy a democrat tried it, and it worked when Reagan a republican tried it.
