"The less people know, the more stubbornly they know it."
Ain't it so!!
Its a great quote from a book called "Your Answers Questioned." The book is full of gems for people (like me) who are starting to question everything they've ever been taught.

light and darkness heavenly forces and a corrupted earth are the twin engines of apocalyptic movements.
for christians awaiting rapture or shiites counting the days until the twelfth imam appears, the trials and injustices of the known world are a prelude for the paradise that we can imagine but cant yet achieve.
judging by the sheer number of predicted end dates that have come and gone without the trumpets blowing and angels rushing in, we are a people impatient to see our world redeemed through catastrophe and we are always wrong.
Light and darkness — heavenly forces and a corrupted earth — are the twin engines of apocalyptic movements. For Christians awaiting rapture or Shiites counting the days until the Twelfth Imam appears, the trials and injustices of the known world are a prelude for the paradise that we can imagine but can’t yet achieve. Judging by the sheer number of predicted end dates that have come and gone without the trumpets blowing and angels rushing in, we are a people impatient to see our world redeemed through catastrophe — and we are always wrong. Gnostics predicted the imminent arrival of God’s kingdom as early as the first century; Christians in Europe attacked pagan territories in the north to prepare for the end of the world at the first millennium; the Shakers believed the world would end in 1792; there was a “Great Disappointment” among followers of the Baptist preacher William Miller when Jesus did not return to upstate New York on Oct. 22, 1844. The Jehovah’s Witnesses have been especially prodigious with prophetic end dates: 1914, 1915, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1941, 1975 and 1994. Any religious movement with an end-time prophecy is certain to attract followers, no matter how maniacal or fringy (witness the Branch Davidians). For those who want to go online and get the latest tally of bad news, there is a nuclear Doomsday Clock and the Rapture Index. If you remember living through Y2K, that was another millenarian moment — except our computer systems were redeemed by the same code writers who corrupted them in the first place.
I was reading the NY times magazine this morning and I saw this. So true- and end time prophecy is bound to attract followers- until the time comes and no end comes.

so three weeks ago my wife and i had an emotional discussion wherein i finally told her that this religion was not the truth.
there was much emotion, a chill has ensued in our relationship.
(i haven't been to a meeting in 4 months now, and have not reported time in two months) i am sure many of you know the drill.. towards the end of our conversation, she asks: but what do i tell the friends when they ask about you?.
yeah, they like to think all who leave are bitter & unhappy
For that very reason, I love the look on everyone's faces when they ask in a dour tone "Are you OK?" Expecting me to break down and cry or at least look real guilty and I respond, "I'm doing great!!"
i have been fading pretty fast over the last several months.
it is amazing how much time service, meetings and the before and after meeting socializing takes away from your life.
i have noticed that i have more time to spend with my family, my marriage feels better and i spend more one-on-one time with my son.
I have been fading pretty fast over the last several months. It is amazing how much time service, meetings and the before and after meeting socializing takes away from your life. I have noticed that I have more time to spend with my family, my marriage feels better and I spend more one-on-one time with my son. In general, it is relaxing not to have to worry about getting everyone cleaned up and to a meeting or service 3-5 times a week. Much less stress.
And when I start to feel guilty about missing a meeting I look at what I'm doing instead (playing catch with my kid, on a walk with my wife, developing a business relationship, etc) and the guilt pretty much fades away. Especially when I consider the alternative (sitting with my kid bored out of his mind and my wife falling asleep in a meeting where someone who is a poor speaker is using the same 10 scriptures to drum guilt and fear into your head.)
Wondering if my experience is uncommon.
so i finally went back to the sunday meeting after missing it for over a month.
i've been to the tms/service meeting a couple of weeks ago by the way, but i've consistently missed the one for sunday.. i dreaded going, but i think i will go to the sunday meetings every couple of weeks for a while.
between my dad and another factor, i think it will be best to go that route for a while.
The blatent negativity was one of the things that my wife and I always complained about to each other. Why are they so intent on convincing us that our lives are so terrible? She would ask me. We would sit inside on a beautiful spring day and hear about how depressing the world is. Then our son started to pick up on it. A 6 year old saying, "I cant wait for the new system." Why? Your life right now is not so bad...
The time wasted listening to how terrible the world can be was the main reason that my wife missed 85% of meetings. It took me reading the facts on the internet for me to join her mentally.
just wanted to fill you all in on what's been going on with me lately....... well it's been about a month and a half and i've been to 2 congregation meetings within that time span.
i've gotten no calls from any of the elders accept two, and they might've called twice each at the most, but it does seem like they're inquiring about me through another person at the moment.
but either way, i feel im on the right track with fading, and i really don't care about what the elders think anymore, or any other jw for that matter.. my dad who was on my case hard at first has backed off.
I recommend you let it be their idea to remove you. Keep up with the missing of meetings and they will eventually come to that conclusion. if you try to resign it will raise flags and you will get a lot of "encouragement" (pressure) to get past your issues.
i heard on tv this morning that a few will protest at our assembly which will be held in quebec city friday, saturday and sunday.. i heard that someone who lost a family member due to blood policy will protest in front of where the assembly will be held..... i'll try to find a link to this story... .
I remember being a kid at a San Diego convention in the early 80's and seing a plane with the phone number. Also the flyer about "What happened at Bethel in 1980" was floating around. I didn't pay any attention at the time but still remember it years later. I always wondered- what secrets are they talking about.
almost entirely transcribed from the audio provided by fading away (thanks, fading away!!).
i couldn't bear to type out all of one experience, you'll have to listen.. the audio link: education talk from follow the christ dc.
the superiority of of being taught by jehovah.
So, how did he know what "Girls gone wild" is all about to reference it in a talk???
hey folks.
mr. flipper here.
when i was a witness , like a lot of you, remember we'd all scramble around at the end of the month asking each other, ( or your book study conductor would remind you) to turn our time in for field ministry ?
NO
i need some answers or advice from the experienced brothers/sisters regarding my stand.
i am too shy to go to the elders.
shall i continue and pursue my life and hopefully be part of the organization once again ??
The thing is- you have to determine what is real and what is concept. Real is a person who unselfishly loves you and will care for you. Sin, an organization, obedience are all concepts. Problems come when people choose concepts over reality.
Of course, always give yourself enough time to detemine whether or not your initial impressions are correct.
