  What was the accepted translation before the NWT?

  i seem to be drawing a blank, but i can't recall what the the "accepted" translation for jw's was pre-nwt?

  if it was the kj or one of the other translations favored by christendom, how did the wts work around the translation errors "corrected" by the nwt?...john 1:1, extensive use of jehovah in nt, etc.

  I have in front of me both my old copies of the king james printed by wts and the and the asv also printed by

  wts. I was around 10-12 years old at the time. They are still in good shape, which means that I did not

  use them much. I still have the original copies of the green segmented versions of the nwt, plus the

  first bound together green version. The thing was huge. I prefer to use the king james even now. I have a list

  of the older words that I sometimes have to look up.

  Did there ever come a time where the meetings became unbearable?

  i try to attend about 3 sunday meetings per month just to keep my whole family from disowning me.

  every week the meetings become more difficult to attend.. the singing is awful,the prayers are all about the ''faithful and discreet slave''.the talks are boring and repetative.the watchtower study reminds of trained seals at the zoo where they do the same tricks over and over just so they can get their treat of fresh fish.

  the answers are short and read off the watchtower magazine word for word.

  I was born into the organization. I hated going as long as I can remember. Each meeting I wanted to jump up and

  scream and then leave. I never kept it a secret . I have told several jws that anyone that says they enjoy the

  meetings was a lier and that was just the way I always felt. If anyone would say how good the meeting was

  or how good the information was, I would ask them what it was all about , I never had anyone that could remember.

  I always thought that all the printed material was deliberately confusing. I have allways been good at reading

  and comprehension. The only time I wondered about my self was when I read the societies crap. I have deliberately

  made great efforts to understand what they are trying to say. I actually know most of the doctrines by heart,

  like the 1914, 1918, etc. but have never been able to back it up with scripture. I realized a long time ago

  that the only way to believe this stuff is by faith alone.

  I quit going a couple of years ago and have never felt better. Even by wife has become very irregular. She

  has seen alot of problems now. The longer you stay away the more time you have to clear your brain.

  The witnesses still come around, and now I look at how pathetic they are, wasting their time running around

  wasting their time and gas, pretending to preach the word and trying to believe in something requiring

  faith in a man made organization. It is no wonder that jws have such a high percentage of people with

  mental problems. One of their favorite sayings is that god will make avery thing clear. They say that

  because they know that none of the stuff makes any sense. God is a logical being . He doesnt expect

  us to believe in the illogical.

  i can remember a "worldly" schoolmate telling me he wouldn't object to the religion so much if the name didn't sound so weird..

  It really was a mouthfull, hard to chew. A relative of mine had his own contorted version, 'hovah jays' .

  The ironic thing is that he later became one.

  This is just my personal opinion, but I have sided with the preterist on this. After reading the works of Josepheus, especially

  the war of the jews. I feel that people are looking forward to something in the future that took place before 70 Ad.

  Things foretold in the old testament are actually described as happening by Josepheus. The destruction of Jerusalem

  was the end. I think all christians should read the works of Joshepheus along with the bible. Things start to make sense

  if you do. If you read the book of revelation and imagine it was written before 70 ad then it makes sense.

  One of the main reasons I believe all this is because of the urgency spoken of throughout the new testament.

  and no mention of the past destruction of Jerusalem. It seems to me that if Jerusalem was destroyed that it would

  have been mentioned by the writers..

  I have not come to any conclusions on the furture, past that except what is mention in the last chapter of Rev. I just

  have a lot of theories. But one thing I am sure of is that Jesus said he would be with believers always.

  Of course I came to this conclusion for a lot more information that this . But it I think everyone should research this aspect of

  bible phrophecy.

  if we should pray in jesus' name, then why was his name not mentioned in the lords model prayer.

  in fact gods name is not mentioned.

  Several times during the book study I would comment on the big colored box on pg 9 chapter 2 of the revelation book. 'it is not claimed that the explanations in this publication are infallible. Like Joseph of old, we say: 'Do not interpretations belong to God?' At the same time, however, we firmly believe that the explanations set forth herein harmonize with the Bible in in its entirety, showing how remarkable divine prophecy has been fulfilled in the world events of our catastrophic times. I always like the confused look on everybodys face. These type of warnings were in other books as well but they are always just overlooked.

  There was another paragraph, which I can't find right now, that said that we should not be speculating on gods word or something close to that. As I told me wife, they tell us that then they just speculate the crap out of it in the rest of the book. This is typical of the society. They can say two opposing ideas at the same time and call it the truth.

  That is the same thing they do with the king of the north. They don't have and never will have a clue who it is. They just guess like the rest of the forecasters in the world do. They probable figure that if they guess long enough they might get it right.

  $$ aid to needy JW's....How much have you ever seen???

  i know in all my years...45 in the trut..uhh...make that...cult..........i can only think of one time i ever gave $$ to someone in need....a friend who and no insurance and had a bad accident.........and i really don't remember anytime a person or family was so desperate there was talk about it or an announcement made to help them.

  in today's economy with zillions of bankruptcies and foreclosures...esp due to medical problems and no insurance, there must be lots of dubs in need.

  so how much financial help have you seen given?

  I have known many jws who were giving people in the many years I was in the org. I have also known many who were not jws. I think there are two types of people, the givers and the takers. There are just more takers than there are givers. The org is controlled by very selfish people in my opionion. I always considered the rulers of the org to be just like the scribes and pharisees. They were aptly described by jesus as haters of good.

  The society is nothing but an organization. And an organization is only as good as its leaders. These leaders have hearts of stone. They actually discourage charity. Love thy neighbor means nothing to them. And they pull no punches about how they feel about their enemies. They have the insane notion that they can sastisfy peoples needs with the watchtower. Jesus fed entire crowds without asking whether they believed or not. It is obvious that he would not approve of the wts.

  Doctrinal ramifications of large increase in 2008 memorial partakers?

  the nearly 10% increase in partakers at the memorial in the 2008 annual service report is a huge increase.

  there were increases in the previous years too.. this massive increase is no doubt attributeable to the 'new light' this year that the calling of the 'heavenly class' was not closed in 1935, as previously taught.

  the new understanding this year is that the calling of the 'anointed' class is 'evidently' still open.

  The whole 144,000 thing just goes to prove that the society has no idea what they are talking about. They are just changing things back and forth so fast that no one has a clue what the heck they are talking about. If anything that the society writes about made any sense then there would not have to be so much discussion about it. The last two elders that visited me did not even know there was a change. I explained the change and they said that is the way it always has been, I had to carefully read the article to them, especially where the society said theirselves that it was a change, before they finally got it. Then they just acted like it was no big deal. The jws just do not pay attention anymore and basically do not care.
