Are JWDers focused on the wrong reasons
by journey-on ina couple of weeks ago, i had a discussion with an elder's wife.
every now and then, they call on me with the literature.
they all know i'm ex-jw, but i'm nice, never da'd nor been df'd, and they think there's hope for me.

This is explaining a lot of things to me, however, about my own family situation. Now, I'm beginning to understand why some of them still adhere to the organization, yet some of the JWs like my own sister must be taking a lot of things with a "grain of salt" so to speak.
She is zealous for the "truth". Her husband is a long-time elder. Yet, her daughter is considering going back to college to get her degree. My sis has NEVER pioneered. She's always worked full time although her hubby can very easily provide financially for them. They go on elaborate vacations, buy expensive automobiles, jewelry, sock money away for retirement, etc. In other words, she's very materialistic by JW standards. As far as I know, she's never brought anybody into "the truth".
So, all the admonition from the WT and GB to do more, more, more in the service because the end is so near is just going in one ear and out the other for a lot of these faithful Witnesses. They do what's required and act zealous. They simply stay in because the doctrines ring true to them, but they quietly live their lives the way they choose.

I can't fathom believing an organization with such a faulty track record is "the truth." But, the mentality of this elder's wife showed me that they don't care about all the imperfections. They simply KNOW that the doctrines are true and hold on to that. And as far as the NWT of the Bible goes, they actually believe Jehovah's spirit guided the translators to record the real meaning. I'm beginning to think there's no hope for the ones still in it.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a discussion with an elder's wife. Every now and then, they call on me with the literature. They all know I'm ex-JW, but I'm nice, never da'd nor been df'd, and they think there's hope for me. Also, I'm always good for a return visit on rainy days. I usually just offer coffee or coke (cola, that is), listen to their shpiel, and accept the mags.
But, on this occasion, probably influenced by something from here, I eased into a discussion about the leadership of the governing body and how I don't agree with just blindly following a bunch of old men in New York.
The gist of what she told me was they know the leadership is imperfect and errors have been made in the past. But, Jehovah's Witnesses are the only ones that teach real Bible truth regarding hellfire, the trinity, the immortal soul, the pagan origins of holidays, and they are the only ones that follow Jesus' command to go forth from house to house with the good news of the kingdom. They are the only ones that teach that the earth will be turned back into a paradise which was Jehovah's original purpose for mankind.
So, what I'm saying, is while the leadership of the GB and scandalous issues like the pedophilia and UN issue are what we mainly focus on here along with failed prophecy, they simply say those things are because men are imperfect and make wrong choices. But, JWs have Biblical truths and this is what they stay focused on.
And we all know disproving basic Biblical doctrines on hell, the immortal soul, trinity, etc. is all in which scriptures you use. It's impossible to prove or disprove. After they left, I began to realize I could show them all the info in the world about the cover-up of the pedophilia problem, the info about the U.N. ngo membership status, how families are torn apart because of shunning, etc. but all they hold on to is Biblical doctrine and overlook everything else. Any thoughts?

For the ladies:
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inis it ok to lie, or lie by omission of information, to your wife, if the motive is saving them stress or grief?.
i feel that my wife and i have a very good relationship, very open, we usually tell each other everything.
as i revealed in someone else's topic recently though, i am a pizza delivery driver...and last night i escaped an attempted robbery.

How is not telling her considered a lie? If she asks you point blank if anyone has ever tried to rob you, and you say 'no', that's a lie. Simply keeping your mouth shut about an incident that would surely cause her a great deal of unnecessary worry is prudent IMO.....it's not a lie by omission or otherwise.
I've learned over the years that just because you have a close relationship with your spouse does not mean you have to share every little detail of your life. Some things are best left close to the vest.
Let me add something, however. Pizza delivery driver? That CAN be dangerous. Hope your life insurance is up to date especially now that you have a new baby and all. That may be something you both need to discuss. If that's a second job for you, perhaps you should look into something a little safer.

Now, Brother Emptywords, let me address the first part about the GB not allowing the brothers and sisters to have differing views. Remember the scripture that says: "a house divided against itself cannot stand." Our FDS is lovingly providing the spiritual food in due season that we all need to serve and please Jehovah. If we are all going about preaching a different message, then we risk jeopardizing the unity and strength of our faith. If you have a legitimate concern, then we, the elders, are here to help you get straight. But, we have to follow the leadership that is being directed by Jehovah's holy spirit and not become puffed up with pride thinking we know what's best.
You say the Christ began to rule in 1914, I don't believe that
I'll let someone else take this one.

You Must Push, Push, Push To Accomplish More, More, More

in the congregation.
it always seemed as if your best was never good enough and more could .

And then when you finally do realize it's all b.s. and drop out, they say you were weak and couldn't live up to Jehovah's standards. I know this is the phrase I've heard my sister use many many times.

Brother Emptywords, I don't have the exact WT article in front of me at the moment, but I do recall information admitting that in the past we may have gone ahead of Jehovah in presenting possible dates, however, we DO know that in 1914 Christ Jesus began to rule from the right hand of Jehovah. Our brothers and sisters should remain united with the faithful and discreet slave in these final last days, and just as Christ taught forgiveness, perhaps we should forgive those who overstepped their bounds. If any of our brothers and sisters suffered because of this overzealousness, I'm sure praying to Jehovah to help them overcome bitterness and anger will benefit them. Remember "love covers a multitude of sins".

I'll take this one:
Well, Brother Emptywords, it's true in the past some of the brothers have gotten a bit over zealous in their desire to see Jehovah's will for the earth fulfilled. And they may have given some erroneous dates out of their overzealousness, but this does not negate the fact that this is Jehovah's organization being guided by his holy spirit. Imperfect men make errors, but we have to wait on Jehovah to correct them. If you allow your faith to be weakened by this, well, all I can say is you're opening the way for Satan to enter in.
