Fact: There really IS a God. (Elaborate design thruout the Universe)
Fact: His qualities can be seen thru the design.
Fact: The Bible has enough evidence to validate it comes from God.
Fact: The Bible identifies Him with the Name YHWH - Yahweh (Hebrew), Jehovah (English)
Fact: "God's People" are those honoring and devoted to God (Jehovah) - regardless of faults.

Nark wrote: "I'm afraid you missed my point. I used "demons," "exorcisms" and "Gehenna" as mere examples of notions/beliefs which seem to pop up from nowhere in the NT to a (especially Protestant) Bible-only reader. Actually they are perfectly at home in 1st-century AD Judaism, as can be seen from the wealth of Jewish literature from the 2nd century BC to the 1st century AD. In these respects the NT is not the least "original". It doesn't create those notions, it simply shares them with contemporary Judaism.
It is sheer anachronism to assume that the religion of Jesus or early Jewish-Christians can be simply inferred from OT religion. Within a few centuries Judaism had changed a lot. The Gospels depict Jesus as a 1st-century Jew (e.g. attending Hanukkah in John 10, reclining instead of standing for the Passover, etc.), not an OT Israelite, and unless they clearly show him at odds with contemporary tradition on a specific issue you have no basis whatsoever to conjecture he was. You do find controversies with "Pharisees/Jews" on the Sabbath and ceremonial cleanness but none on the divine name. This, combined with the stubborn absence of any mention of any form of Yhwh in early NT mss, is devastating to the WT reasoning.
Again, it takes complete ignorance of 1st-century and later Judaism to miscontrue mere mentions of the noun "name" (onoma, shem) as evidence of an actual use of the name "Yhwh". As I said, Hallowed be thy name is found in the Rabbinical Qaddish, and it is clearly compatible with the equally rabbinical prohibition to actually pronounce the name "Yhwh".
If you only tried to learn a little about 1st-century Judaism you would easily see that you are wrong not only on the above but on many other issues on which you take the JW summary of "Bible teaching" for granted (e.g. "astrology," re: the Magi, or the "immortal soul," or the actual meaning of "Gehenna"). The NT would immediately make better sense to you where you have to strive desperately to get around the obvious meaning (e.g. the rich man and Lazarus, what a f*cked-up illustration if the WT has it right!). But that would require researching instead of arguing for a little while."
Mad writes: If YOU want to trust 1st Century Judiasm- (or from any century)- to quote Asto (Jetsons/60s cartoon): Rots of Ruck!
(To answer your last question, I'm no fan of the NIV, and I do agree that the best translation policy is to use some transliteration of Yhwh where it belongs, i.e., in the OT passages where "Yhwh" actually occurs.)

As objects of evangelism, they are called 'crops to be harvested,' 'sheep to be found,' and 'fish to be netted.' Because of the danger of worldly influence (much like a contagious disease), relationships with 'them' must be handled gingerly. Contacts must be superficial, geared toward evangelism only, and cut short if there is not a positive response. Like the children... are you telling me that every single child, even the ones under age 10 was evil enough to die? (And the animals too I suppose, but I frankly don't care much about them.)
And, if they must die, then why be so violent about it? Surely an all powerfull god could find a much nicer way to kill people than with a flood. That would be a slow and terrifying death. (As mothers carried their little children up a steep mountain, trying to climb faster than the rising water, only to reach the top exhausted and realize that the water is still rising, the mother tries to swim, carrying her dying toddler through the water, only to drown after a long battle for their lives.)
If I had the power, and I HAD to kill people, it would be a quick and painless death. (Plus I'm sure Noah wouldn't have minded being saved the trouble of building an ark.)

Mad writes: My illustrations are nowhere near as fitting as Christ's, S, so please humor me a little! (Shows you how old the show is; it was in the days when kids were taught to look & act good!). His mom & dad get very upset with him- but can't get thru, so his dad gives him the OK, later driving him to the prom. Stepping into the auditorium, Beaver sees everyone wearing a tux- even his best friend, who gives him excuses why he ended up wearing one. Humiliated, Beaver slinks out, ending up in the parking lot- where he sees his dad smiling & leaning against the car. "Gee, you were RIGHT, dad- I should've listened to you." His dad says, "I'm glad to hear that son. Still want this?", sliding out a tux from the back seat. "And HOW, dad! Thank you SO much!", Beaver exclaimed, hugging his dad.
Sometimes, you HAVE to learn the hard way- and that is how mankind is learning! They are learning the folly of setting up their own way of ruling & living that is so selfish, so ignorant! When the Appointed Time comes, not one person in heaven or earth will be able to say God's rules were selfish, or that they could figure out how to manage society...

Supposed Bible 'Contradictions' were posted- here are the facts:
GE 1:3-5 On the first day, God created light, then separated light and darkness.

GE 12:4, AC 7:4 Abram was 75 when he left Haran. This was after Terah died. Thus, Terah could

MT 1:16 Jacob was Joseph's father.
LK 3:23 Heli was Joseph's father.

This is the only one that appears a genuine contradiction- research shows that Joseph was Heli's son -in-LAW by
taking Mary as wife; geneology doesn't specifiy between literal sons and son-in-laws.

MT 2:13-16 Following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary flee to Egypt, (where they stay until after Herod's death) in order to avoid the
murder of their firstborn by Herod. Herod slaughters all male infants two years old and under. (Note: John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin, though
under two is somehow spared without fleeing to Egypt.)
*****************************************************************************************************************************
The firstborns were murdered only in the small region of Bethlehem. John and the Apostles grew up in other regions.
************************************************************************************************************************
LK 2:22-40 Following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary remain in the area of Jerusalem for the Presentation (about forty days) and then
return to Nazareth without ever going to Egypt. There is no slaughter of the infants.
**************************************************************************************************************************************
The confusion here comes from the phony Church Dogma of Jesus being a newborn in a manger when the Wise Men/Astrologers are led
by the Star (from Satan).
The account in Matthew has many details showing this was AFTER the account in Luke 2. Jesus is no longer
referred to as a babe- but as a young child. Herod has all the boys in that region from 2 years old to newborns, just in case. Jesus, Mary and
their child are living in a house. And there's more, if you want to look into the historical details of the Roman Rulers mentioned.
The account in Luke is related what happened at his birth- BEFORE Herod, the astrologers, and the slaughter- and Egypt.
****************************************************************************************************************************************
MT 3:11-14, JN 1:31-34 John realized the true identity of Jesus (as the Messiah) either prior to the actual Baptism, or from the Baptism
onward. The very purpose of John's baptism was to reveal Jesus to Israel.
MT 11:2-3 After the Baptism, John sends his disciples to ask if Jesus is the Messiah.
**************************************************************************************************************************************
John needed reassurance; he was about to be beheaded. What a cheesy thing to imply!
There may be contradictions SOMEWHERE in the Bible- but it sure ain't THESE!
