  my version of the "moral argument for god": .

  (i have derived the following arguments after studying c.s.

  lewis', norman geisler's, and victor reppert's arguments, and i want to give credit where credit is due).

  The key is exploring common ground and an allowance for the autonomy of the individual. (an experiment that seems to have failed thus far in human history. Maybe we are finally at the point where it could work??)

  Until we can eliminate narcissisistic(?) tendencies we will still need laws, whether they come from government, religion, or both the result is the same, fear of punishment, and promise of reward, (whether it's real or not it doesn't matter it only matters that the ruled believe it) helps to keep all but the most pathological in line, and therefore allows a society to flourish.

  Why do youy feel the need to have an "objective basis" for your moral beliefs? Do you fear if there was no one or nothing around to tell you what is right or threaten you with enternal damnation that you would be a animal only governed by your basest instincts?

  So which absolute moral laws of the bible do you follow? Do you own slaves? Do you condone polygamy? If a leader in your religion said we need to kill everyone in this city here because the LORD commands us to do so would you follow him like the Israelites followed Joshua? Do you treat women like lesser vessels? How about homosexuals? Do you view them as an abomination? How about the Koran, the Book of Mormon, the Vedas, or any other religious text? What makes the absolute moral laws from the Bible better than the absolute moral laws from any other book given by any other God or gods?

  There is nothing 'absolute' about morals, they are constructs of societies, and contribute to the success or failure of societies.

  How do we know that it was the ones who had empathy that survived better?

  Survival of the fittest, we see this as a trait in most social creatures, but we do also see narcissism which is another more individialistic survival trait, but they need a functioning society to take advantage of so they're usually in the minority. Sort of like a social predator.

  SLoon, do Chai tea bags work? I have Chai, decaff green, and chamomile. I have a feeling the Chai tea bags actually attract those socialist rays. I'll use those. I like to live on the edge!

  Personally I use Earl Grey to channel Captain Piccard's stodgy stubborness to block those socialist rays. Although upon thinking what tea did the Ferengi drink? That might work better.

  Yes, but there is a way to stop it! Wearing a hat made of teabags will stop the socialism inducing rays from HAARP from controlling your mind. They've devised a way to penetrate the tinfoil hats, but the new teabag hats will offer protection, at least until the illuminati researchers devise a way to counter these new hats.

  Maybe they didn't screw things up as badly as we have.

  Some probably have done worse. There's a little thought experiment called Drake's Equation, which attempts to determine the number of technologically advanced civilizations in the galaxy. I say thought experiment because we really don't know all the variables so it's a lot of guess work. One of the variables is whether the civilization survives itself, it doesn't self-destruct through warfare or environmental disasters. It may be that most do not, and that could be why we haven't heard anyone out there yet. This is all just wild speculation though.
