i've been corresponding with a dub via email, talking about mostly evolution but now the subject has changed.
she reckons there is proof for poltergeists and other demonic happenings.
many dubs, including my parents-in-law and local elders, have similar tales.
Surely, if the JW thing were true, then the demons ought not make witnesses a target, as it only reinforces their beliefs. No doubt that would be counter productive if they are trying to draw JW's away from their beliefs? (Knowing their time is short etc). FFS people.
I know people who believe in ghosts. Mostly drug users, go figure.
i suspect a few witnesses were not "straight" but didn't act on their sexual preferences.. i knew one up and coming bethelite who was approached by the bethel heavies and talked to about his "effeminate mannerisms" and was pretty much told that he could become a more prominent menmber of the bethel family if he "became more masculine looking" and preferably found a bethel sister to marry.
he followed the counsel and was thereafter a regular designated bethel speaker at district conventions.
interestingly, all of his bethel buddies thought the whole scenario was a hoot, knowing that he was really an effeminate man suddenly now looking very hetero..

so as the growth in western societies continue to decline and the growth is in 2nd and 3rd world countries how will the watchtower remain afloat from donations from these places where some make a dollar a day?
Well how much cash do you think they need to keep going? An old dude I know recently died leaving every penny and all his property to the society. A reasonable estimate would be a total of £500,000. Last year, another old geezer left £700,000 plus his house. I think with this kind of misguided behaviour they can keep going for a long long time.

1.Because prayer is a form of self-brainwashing. Despite overwhelming evidence made available by people(scientists) through painstaking, tireless research over the course of many, many years, crawling around in the dirt trying to find real answers. You(creationists) choose not to believe them, and would rather believe that a book, thousands of years old, has all the answers instead, and that a big invisible man in the sky who hates everyone did it all. And even though I can't think of any reason why plant and animal evolution should neccessarily be at odds with the idea of a creator, you have to fight against it pretty hard because your bible based view of the world is so far fetched and unflexable.
If your home was robbed would you not want any forensic evidence to be used to catch the culprits? I mean, how can you trust those scientists eh?
