UK Election Breaking News: Ringo Won the Bingo
by Duncan inwell, i stayed up half the night watching the results come in.. helpfully, the bbc website had published an election party pack, with fun and games to keep the jaded viewers interested.
one of the games was election night bingo.. you know the kind of thing: four bingo cards with studio-pundit type phrases on them, to keep you alert and check them off as they were used.
"keys to number ten" "portillo moment" "three-way marginal" and so on and so on.. couldn't get anyone else in the house interested in playing.

40 Years ago - The Moon Landing: The Part I Played in the Whole Thing
by Duncan in(i posted this a couple of weeks ago, but forgot to put a title - it sank without trace.
forgive the repeat).
there will be a lot of moon landing stuff in the press and media in the next couple of months - its 40 years since that first small step the anniversary is on july 20th.. so, like ive done in the past (for example this post regarding the transit of venus in 2004, which i posted 3 months early), i thought i would get my 40th anniversary post in before anyone else.. this is it, then: the apollo moon landing- the part i played in the whole thing.

growing up in the sixties in england, for people of my age and nationality, there were maybe two great events in that decade that stand out as truly unforgettable .
winning the world cup in 1966 was one, and the apollo moon landing was the other.

Hester and Cars
by Duncan inhester had opinions on pretty much everything, and one of the things i heard her pronounce upon over and over again were motor cars.. .
i must admit , this story isnt as funny as some of the other things she said, but its an interesting story nonetheless.. .
anyway, hester had firm views on cars: .

by Duncan inif you dont know who hester is (or was shes probably dead by now, forty years later), she was an elderette in our congregation way back when.
they know its got less of a smell, so they put a noise into it!
where they make it in the gasworks they put a noise in it.

Tom Gets A Big Fright
by Duncan ini havent posted anything much for a while, but the other day i was thinking about this story, and i thought id share it.
i did think twice, though, because it involves incidents and behaviour so bizarre and non-christian that some readers might have trouble believing this kind of thing could actually go on.
anyway, at one period, tom fell completely under garys spell, and thats where this story gets started.

Christine's Retirement Lunch
by Duncan ina few months ago, i went to christines retirement lunch.. i didnt really know christine that well, she joined the company when we merged with another business a year or two before.
she took care of facilities management (cleaning contractors, building maintenance, landlord management etc) on all the properties the company used.
prior to the new arrangements, she would most probably have been one of my team, but as it was, she reported up to someone else, and i never got to know her properly.. until the day of the retirement lunch, when i sat next to her and a long talk.
