untitled
by Duncan inthere will be a lot of moon landing stuff in the press and media in the next couple of months - its 40 years since that first small step the anniversary is on july 20th.. so, like ive done in the past (for example this post regarding the transit of venus in 2004, which i posted 3 months early), i thought i would get my 40th anniversary post in before anyone else.. this is it, then: the apollo moon landing- the part i played in the whole thing.
growing up in the sixties in england, for people of my age and nationality, there were maybe two great events in that decade that stand out as truly unforgettable .
winning the world cup in 1966 was one, and the apollo moon landing was the other.

I hereby declare....
by Duncan in....the christmas season officially open!.
to explain: my wife's folks live in the neighbouring town to us, a distance of 10 miles or so.
the road which connects us is listed as an "a" class road, although, in truth, it's more like a country lane in places.. halfway along this road is a farm, and the farm has a sign hanging on its gate:.

UK Election Breaking News: Ringo Won the Bingo
by Duncan inwell, i stayed up half the night watching the results come in.. helpfully, the bbc website had published an election party pack, with fun and games to keep the jaded viewers interested.
one of the games was election night bingo.. you know the kind of thing: four bingo cards with studio-pundit type phrases on them, to keep you alert and check them off as they were used.
"keys to number ten" "portillo moment" "three-way marginal" and so on and so on.. couldn't get anyone else in the house interested in playing.

The Forgetter (Complete fluff)
by Duncan inanother walk down memory lane.... when i was seven or eight years old, i had this most fantastic idea.
this idea was going to bring me fame and fortune.
what i was going to do was invent this marvellous machine it was called the forgetter - which would have the power to make people, the whole world in fact, forget all about certain things.. my idea was that i was going to set my machines controls so that when it was turned on, everyone would instantly forgot all about a particular pop song, which i would then go around taking the credit for having written.. it was a perfect plan.
