I am inclined to agree with you that DNA evidence could be used as the second witness, but I don't know for sure. Another thought is that they could make a simple announcement that "so and so is no longer one of JWs". They use this approach for those who join the military or another religion. I wonder if they would use this with a convicted child molester.

A Judicial Committee is designed to give all of the control to the elders. It is not a fair representation of the facts, nor is the standard used to judge the facts a reliable one (see the many changing beliefs of the WTS). Compounding these issues is the fact that the men sitting in judgement likely have no formal training in how to discern facts nor a deep understanding of how humans work, societal forces and similar.

Given the unfair situation, I recommend that you not attend. If you do attend try to equalize the playing field by recording the event, bringing witnesses or bringing an attorney.

Children of 1975

what was it like to live in the 1950's 1960's and early 70's as a jehovah witness.when they started to push the 1975 date..

Jehovah's channel of communication :) in our area was Floyd Kite and Angelo Manera. The virtually guaranteed that the Big A was on the way. Nearly every talk, every discussion focused on 1975. My mom moved our family to where the need was greater in 1973 reasoning that we would only have to live there for two years. She sold our home and we left behind dear relatives, friends and opportunities. When the Big A did not come, I swore to never believe them again although I stayed "in" until a couple of years ago. I think the financial pressure that results from living with a two year time horizon coupled with leaving a strong support system of family, friends and jobs took a severe toll on my mom. She never was the same person again. She began to break down physically and mentally starting in 1976. Obviously people can and do recover from being lied to and the trauma associated with realizing that what you thought was God's Channel was a bunch of ignorant, evil men... but I do hate them for what they did to her.

I got married before online dating was created

Friends (JWs) that met online are kinda weird

Friends (non JWs) that met online seem like they have a good thing going

I work out 7 times a week and still a little tiny bit of my belly hangs over my pants, and

I love my dog :)

i do.. now that i am out i find it funny and very ironic that i made fun of such "absurd" beliefs.. here is a list of the top of my head that i used to believe:.

1. that 144,000 people will taken from the earth at random and appointed a immortal kings and priests in heaven.

Maybe the best judgement of the Mormans is what do they produce, what do they leave behind so that others can build upon.

They build businesses

Their children are mostly college grads

They seem to have better retention numbers than the Ws (Pew Study)

I am not a Morman fan, but given the choice between JWs and the Mormans - I would take the Mormans everytime

Freakonomics and the drop in the crime rate

we recently watched the movie 'freakonomics' based on the book of the same name and it posited some pretty scandalous ideas among the less so.

on the less scandalous side, name choice has little to do with success except that a mother who names you some wierd thing has other problems that surely will affect you.

its not the name its the parents who would give you such a name.. on the provocative side, they note that the slide in crime rate across the country corresponds with the time period that abortion has been legal.

the subject has come up in my reincarnation thread and i think its worthy of its own.. when i saw the movie "rain man", what amazed me the most about what raymond was able to do (i.e., counting the number of matches in a matchbox after a glance, or memorizing all the names and numbers in a large phone book in a matter of minutes) was that it proves that a human mind is capable of performing the functions of a computer and more.

why then, do we not a: all have these supercomputer abilities, and b., why is an autistic person lacking in other areas such as social skills?

my second son was born in 1992 with a lipoma on his tail bone which was also wrapped around his spinal cord.

I dated my wife while she was in high school and I was just out. I had a Yamaha 650 Special and we would ride all around town. The elders said we had to have a chaperon, where in the heck could I put him/her? Still married, a few decades later.

Maybe the point here is that the WTS destroys good thinking ability. I agree that the WTS would not recommend disowning a 5 year old boy. But they do recommend perfect obedience without critical thinking and such a stance breeds distorted thinking from those obedient to the WTS.

What an evil bunch of men.
