  i considered myself immune to ex jw stuff.

  no amount of old watchtowers or anything would change me.

  it was seeing treatment of others by elders and the bible itself, which woke me.

  has been bugging me since i read it.. she mentioned how a classmate took special delight in tormenting her due to mary's being a jw.. mary mentioned that this girl pointed to and mocked her when she couldn't share in a birthday?

  celebration.. are some kids really that cruel?

  where were the teachers?.

  No, Dear Sylvie, the fact is that kids (as peers) are going to get away with saying horrible things to each other whether the teachers know about it or not.

  I was bullied by the classroom kids for being a JW, too... I was told by one of them, "Jehovah is god's name, and you are a disgrace to him." I still to this day (as a mostly reasoning adult) can't believe this came out of the mouth of such a pretty little girl.

  And yes, that was in the South.

  zazen is zen sitting meditation or sitting in controlled conditions to practice mindfulness.. zazen has certain traditional guidelines that make meditation more effective, but in reality, other positions can be zazen if they work better for you, develop your self-discipline, and are practiced with full awareness.. standard zazen posture is to sit on a cushion in the lotus position, japanese sitting pose, half-lotus, or cross-legged, but if these are uncomfortable, you can practice zazen in a chair.. traditionally in zazen, your hands form the cosmic mudra- one hand cupped in the other, your thumbs meeting to form an oval just below your navel..

  my frequent walks these last few years about the neighborhood so familiar to me would ordinarily be construed a pleasant enough non-event.

  a little mild exercise - taken in small doses to keep the joints operating properly - and a keen eye peeled for the ever-changing face of nature have rendered the daily promenade a suitable diversion.

  I Am Not at Home Here.

  i awake in a place that clearly is not home.. looking about in a blurry daze, the expected trappings of bed, chair and scuffed, dirty walls have somehow disappeared during my wretched slumber.

  all the familiar has slid away, swirling downward, but not swallowed, into an eerily black vortex above which my stiffened body floats unaffected by the devouring maelstrom.

  my immediate surroundings are an atmosphere of greenish hue that is part of what appears to be sky.
