Why Doesn't Armageddon Freak Them Out ?(Why didn't it freak us out ? )

on t v i recently saw some of the film "knowledge" starring nicholas cage .

the idea of the film was that the main character had knowledge of coming disasters .

he was distraught - desperate - panicking to try and stop it happening.

It did freak me out, and I did panic. I had panic attacks much of my life I spent as a Jehovah's Witness.

a little mild exercise - taken in small doses to keep the joints operating properly - and a keen eye peeled for the ever-changing face of nature have rendered the daily promenade a suitable diversion.

techniques to help calm and focus your mind toward mindfulness include following your breath, counting your breath, visualizing, relaxing, or focusing on a visual point (such as a mandala) or a sound (such as a mantra).. many religious, philosophical, and spiritual traditions throughout the world use different meditation techniques, and all of them may be useful for quieting mental clamor.. kinhin is the walking counterpart to zazen.. eventually, you will be able to sit in awareness without techniques and then carry that awareness throughout the day..

I stand corrected. Yet again, here I am struggling with words to share the meaning I wish to convey... Poppers is right. It is not the death of the ego. There is no need to kill the ego, but just to realize it for what it is. Perhaps the great thing about meditation is that it gives the ego some much needed REST... i.e. it puts it to SLEEP for a while! Meanwhile your "true self" emerges... free from the endless chitterings of the ego.

Or, as Tolle says, "You are not your mind." More poignantly, you are not your thoughts.

Do we have stats on a 'mass exodus'?

i see at times, talk of how many are leaving the jws, how the young ones are leaving in droves, that more and more are 'waking up' etc.. can we substanciate this?.

i mean, actual stats to show this, not just small or negitive growth in lands such as the united states, as there are larger growths in other countries.. there are of course the downsizings of bethels etc, but downsizing is not always a sign of members leaving is it?

sales may be down resulting in streamlining organization as with any corporation.. numbers d/f each year getting larger?

It is a reputation work which has made the name "Jehovah" synonymous with "false prophecy about Armageddon" and "the don't believe in Christmas, Easter, flag salute, blood transfusions, etc. etc."

Exactly, yes... that is very, very much a part of it, too. Of course, as you can imagine, it is difficult to define, difficult to describe, and it's not that easy to explain how to do it exactly (even though it is not as difficult or out of reach as most folks think!) Words really don't do the state of "mindfulness" justice.

I'm very happy our combined efforts to explain it made sense!!! (And thank you for your lovely compliment, Dear Wildflower.)

I have found the truth about the truth now...

i am a third generation of jehovah witnesses, even if i never got baptized.

however, they disfellowship me when i was around 15. this was around 1987. even if i have not been in the "truth" for so many years it has affected all my life in many ways not only negative.

a couple of years ago i thought the events in the world maybe proved to me that they were right after all.
