  my frequent walks these last few years about the neighborhood so familiar to me would ordinarily be construed a pleasant enough non-event.

  a little mild exercise - taken in small doses to keep the joints operating properly - and a keen eye peeled for the ever-changing face of nature have rendered the daily promenade a suitable diversion.

  i considered myself immune to ex jw stuff.

  no amount of old watchtowers or anything would change me.

  it was seeing treatment of others by elders and the bible itself, which woke me.

  Your story chills me to the bone, Daringhart, but you and I have something in common... I left because I knew disfellowshipping was wrong. The irony, of course, is that when you leave because you disagree with the shunning, you have brought that possibility upon yourself, as well.

  Did you ever pass up an opportunity to leave the truth?

  years ago when everything was going pear shaped for me in my personal life and in the congregation, i saw my opportunity to leave.

  i had no friends, the elders didn't like me and i was one step away from resigning.

  i had nothing to lose.. this was back in '97 before i got the internet.. one of my regrets is that i didn't leave when i had the chance.

  Every day is an opportunity to see the truth about the "truth".

  Regardless, no one is able to take advantage of that "opportunity"... until that individual is truly ready for what that frightening revelation and transistion might bring.
