i have contacted a half dozen people thru facebook.
all of these people i have known for 2 decades, most more than that.
in every case, i have not been overly apostate in my statements - just a simple hi, hello, and how ya' doin' type message to them in private.. nearly all of them fall into one of two categories: never been a jw, just studied, maybe attended meetings for a while, likely not doing so nowadays.
This is a great question, Jeff, and another similar question is, why do so many who are inactive still refuse blood transfusions?
It seems the more dire and dangerous (even life-sacrificing) the dogma is, the deeper the brainwashing is rooted.
hello friends... just found out that at the recent one day assembly they are now really discouraging people from getting married!!!!!
they will lose young ones like crazy if they start telling them that they cannot get married...what are these sexually frusterated young people to do??
you cannot masterbate, you cannot have sex outside of marriage (not that i would encourage it either, but...), now you cannot even get married?????
Flipper said:
It really comes down to dividing and conquering people- even down to the most personal level- having a marriage mate or not. It's sick. Because then the young person is left without close emotional support- and is coerced by " mind control" to seek elders, C.O.s and the WT leaders for support. That is what the WT society wants - ultimate control over ALL their members.
Bingo.
hey folks, the links for these letters has expired.
i'm looking for copies of the letters that dana loytved sent saying that you don't have to join the un to gain access to it's library and that the wording of the charter did not change from the time jws joined till the time they left.. not sure why they're not up on some site permanently, but if someone can throw them up somewhere that would be great.. thanks in advance guys!.
BOOKMARKED, thank you.
then 1 thessalonians 5 read about 'peace and security'.
the speakers instructed not to embellish the statements.. 'noble sentiments' was mentioned about the un charter but no criticism.. followed by the need for god's kingdom.. it sounded more like an advert for the un to me.
did anyone else hear it?
Bookmarked... would love to have some more verification on this.

Dear gods. I hope and pray that all the good hearts and minds who can and will... awaken.
here and in other websites (such as jwfacts) i learned that the wt frowns on higher education but is also aware that it needs trained staff.
i also learned that at some point they weren't as tight on learning more skills because they found that the rank and file witness had trouble finding a job that would let him do for a more decent living.
well, i wonder what happens in poorer countries, where salaries are much lower, jobs much more scarce, and where an university degree is still a huge advantage but no guarantee of anything.
Bravo, Scully! Great story!!!
jws don't have emotions and i mean personal emotions, preferences etc.can't explain it in other words but you get the point..
Lack of emotion is really part of the brainwashing, isn't it?
We were taught to fear everything, we were taught to rejoice that everyone on earth but US were going to be destroyed in a blazing armeggedon, we were taught to shun beloved ones when they were kicked out of their support group at their very lowest point...
There is little room in those conditions for love or joy of any kind.
i went to the sunday circuit assembly and came back all riled up with all the nonsense.. the sunday program was on ''safeguarding your spirituality''.
''it is better to remain single and not marry.
that gives you more time for studying and the preaching work.
Quote:
High School Counselor: ''Have a seat Karen and I will show you all the College applications I have for you.''
Sister: ''Thank you for all the work you have done.''
Counselor: '' I have an application from Harvard, one from Michigan University, and a couple from the East Coast.''Sister: '' I have done alot of thinking and decided not to go to any College."
Counselor: ''Karen, you have a 4.0 grade average and scored very high on the A.C.T. and you would have no problem getting into any of these schools."
Sister: '' As you know,I'm a Jehovah's Witness and we believe that we are near the ''end times.'' I decided that I will go into the preaching work part time and maybe go to a 2 year school."
Counselor: ''You will probably get into these schools at almost no cost because of your 4.0 average and high A.C.T. scores and have a good career the rest of your life. These are great schools and will prepare you to land a good job.''
Sister: ''This world is passing by and may not be here any longer. I decided to enter the ministry work and Jehovah God will provide for me in the future."
Jesus. I can't believe they are still blatently coming right out and saying this crap. (Sorry, that made me angry.)
A dear loved one of mine has been studying, and a few years ago I told her about the organization strongly discouraging college. She said, "Oh, they don't do that anymore." She just got baptised a couple of months ago. It all just makes me sad.
when a government challenges jws' freedom, it's not unusual that they (wherever they can do that) organize a campaign of sorts to protest, affirm and defend their religious freedom (see, for instance, the recent campaign in russia http://www.jw-media.org/rus/20100226.htm and the 1999 campaign in france over the denial of tax-exempt status to jws http://www.rickross.com/reference/jw/jw6.html).. one of the reasons of concern such campaigns focus on is the threat implied for other religions by the government's behaviour with the jws ("what will happen tomorrow to other religions?")..
but do they really care about what happens to other religions?
have you ever seen jws campaigning to defend the religious freedom of some other group or denomination whose activities are prohibited or somehow hindered by the secular authorities?.
Behemot, you called it what it is: Double standard.
Remember, too, the recent article defending those who change their religion in the face of adversity from their family... but only if one is becoming a Jehovah's Witness, of course.
