Benicio del Toro as Che Guevara
by BurnTheShips inhavana (ap) - actor benicio del toro says protesters at the miami screening of "che" should have watched the film first.. del toro plays argentine-born ernesto "che" guevara, a hero of the cuban revolution and global icon.
he says the role was difficult and took a lot of time.. cuban exiles protested the movie in miami last week.
many opposed guevara for executions of officials from fulgencio batista's government, which was toppled in 1959.. but del toro says "a lot of the people protesting the movie hadn't seen it.".

Symbiogenesis?
by BurnTheShips invery cool.. solar-powered sea slug harnesses stolen plant genes .
it's the ultimate form of solar power: eat a plant, become photosynthetic.
now researchers have found how one animal does just that.. elysia chlorotica is a lurid green sea slug, with a gelatinous leaf-shaped body, that lives along the atlantic seaboard of the us.

regenerating a mammoth for $10 million by nicholas wadescientists are talking for the first time about the old idea of resurrecting extinct species as if this staple of science fiction is a realistic possibility, saying that a living mammoth could perhaps be regenerated for as little as $10 million.. the same technology could be applied to any other extinct species from which one can obtain hair, horn, hooves, fur or feathers, and which went extinct within the last 60,000 years, the effective age limit for dna.
though the stuffed animals in natural history museums are not likely to burst into life again, these old collections are full of items that may contain ancient dna that can be decoded by the new generation of dna sequencing machines.

McCain and Obama tax plan's effect on growth, capital stock, marginal rates
by BurnTheShips intax hike.dollars and sense .
earlier this week, john mccain proposed temporarily slashing the capital gains tax rate from 15 percent to 7.5 percent for 2009 and 2010. barack obama supports raising the capital gains rate to 20 percent for individuals earning more than $200,000 a year and couples earning more than $250,000.. this is a bigger issue than many people realize.
as ucla economist lee ohanian points out, the u.s. capital stock is extremely sensitive to changes in capital income taxation.

You won't believe where that $700-billion bailout figure came from
by BurnTheShips inyou won't believe where that $700-billion bailout figure came fromhere's something that john mccain and barack obama and sarah palin and even longtime washingtonian joe biden probably don't know.
not to mention bob barr, ralph nader and ron paul, who usually knows everything.. it's a fascinating footnote to the economic and political bailout debate that's kept so many people from more properly focusing on the pennant races and the colts' problems in the last week.
(incidentally, do you think we'd have had this big fight if president bush had called it a "rescue" plan instead?).

The Ant and the Grasshopper
by BurnTheShips inin a meadow on a hot summers day, a grasshopper was chirping and carousing his time away.
he watched scornfully as an ant nearby struggled to store up large kernels of food and build a secure nest.
the ant pulled overtime shifts to pay off his loans and accumulate retirement funds for the future.. .
