Remember Hour Quotas?

Or the pioneer who wrote a letter to send to send to a person, copied the letter a hundred times, and mailed the letters out (postage was cheaper) and count a hundred hours and put the cost for postage on his tax return as a deduction.
Now that's the best I have ever heard for a pioneer to make their hours! They must have figured out that creative accounting is the WBTS way because their numbers never sort out!!!

Verdict on the 2025 convention
by gavindlt infinal thoughts after 15 hours of the 2025 assembly.
after dedicating 15 hours to the 2025 assembly, i walked away with a heavy sense of spiritual emptiness.
the only part that managed to stir anything within me was a single video on day one titled “what does jesus see in you?”—a piece with sentimental appeal, but still surface-level at best.. .

But, what I find particularly false about what is being said lately is that ‘Faders’ are supposedly out to get everybody and drag JWs out of their precious religion!.. This is not true.
Hi LHG! Absolutely not true. Faders just want O-U-T!!!! Again they love to demonize everybody and everything to instill fear over absolutely nothing.

My $.02.
After reflecting on these observations and thinking back, when you are in and attending any convention, it is less about the material, especially if you have been in for years, and more about being in a group of like minded people and seeing old friends and going to dinner afterwards.
You know it is the same message over and over and over and over again for decades, but so is everything they put out. Yes there has been some "NUUUU Light", but the overall message is not changed..."you are undeserved and one heart beat away from destruction if you miss the secret meeting." The end is close, the world/relatives/faders etc. are all bad and out to get you so you need to be strong to fight these evils.
When you out looking in, you see the control by fear of these repetitive messages magazine after magazine, meeting after meeting, convention after convention. It's numbing when you are in for most, but when you are out the hairs on our neck stand up and the trigger words infuriating.
I need to catch the video when I'm home, I'm at work. I see a relative's JW memorial in my near future and I like to have a clue what I'm walking into. I've given my word I'd be there.

SDAs Campaigning in my Area
by NotFormer innot even as active as the jws (whom i have not seen for around a year now), nevertheless i get an occasional leaflet or other publication in my letterbox that seems to be seventh day adventist in origin.. the booklet i received the other day was entitled "national sunday law".
i also had received this book years ago when i had some dealings with the sdas.. from reddit: "national sunday law involves a conspiracy theory which alleges that the united states government is on the verge of enacting a national blue law that would make sunday a day of rest and worship.
the theory depends on the idea that the pope is the antichrist and the mark of the beast is worshipped on sunday.

(He even looks like Freddy!!! LOL)
I think that was him, but Wiki didn't mention that magazine. I can still see it in my head, they were by the newspaper stands with their own little free stand. None of this "door to door" business!
We were "trained" to be able to make a stand for our doctrine with these other religions. We had to know what they believed, even the dreaded "evil slave class." I had a call for years now that I think about it with an SDA. Why now I have no idea...le sigh.
Old Harold didn't have the accountants and attorneys the WTBS has in order to become an international real estate company!

I came upon an SDA table with literature. I picked some up and browsed thru some of it. OMG!!! I was so weird, cause was SOOOOO much like JW literature. Gloom and Doom, petting pandas in Paradise ala Live Forever Book....... that I was really taken aback. What, do these cults all share the same Art Department?
^^When I left JW, I took the time to look at the different preachers on TV, and listened for a time to Xtian radio, just to get a feel for what people were listening to. I was really surprised how much it sounded all the same...gloom and doom just with a few words changed. The scriptures read were the same and used for the same purpose.
My father's family were SDA. I wish now I had asked more questions. One of his siblings stayed SDA, became an MD at Loma Linda. From recent Ancestry dot com information, his family still has the SDA links, their names associated with colleges etc. My parents became JW's in the late 30's, and witnessed in downtown LA among all the religious fervor that was happening there... Christian Science, Angelus Temple with Amy Semple McPherson, that other guy that put out a monthly magazine much like the Wat/Awake.
It's alllll the same save for a few different word changes.

What is the Craziest Thing You Are Aware Of Someone Being Disfellowshipped For?
by Sea Breeze ini knew a lady who was disfellowshipped for 20 years for smoking.
she finally went back to the kh and since they couldn't find her paperwork, (all the former elders were dead) she was allowed back in without reinstatement.
no one even remembered her.

It is a system that produces elders who are rigid, inflexible, and woefully unprepared for a role of providing spiritual guidance and moral support. It should be no surprise that many of them let it get to their heads, as it is the first --and possibly only-- position of authority that they have. They are utterly unqualified for the most important task that they will be asked to perform. It's recipe for disaster.
Hi TonusOH - this was 100% the situation here. Newly appointed elder, custodian in the school district (nothing wrong with that), on an elder body with educated/USC grad/HS teacher/executives. This guy corrected someone when they said "podium" instead of "speaker stand". I don't have time ATM to write this crazy story, but in the end, years later, this guy turned out to be flaming alcoholic, and I think I even heard he had to apologize from the platform.
In this situation, my roommate's elder father told us the no winning with elders, guided us on how to handle the situation. He told us to inquire if it was a committee meeting, (it wasn't), and to change the venue and time for the discussion to what we wanted. We ended up in control of the discussion and correcting new guy of his false accusations. We were both managers and used to dealing with all kinds of people situations, and this new inexperienced guy thought he could trick us with his stupid questions. The other elder was so embarrassed, he said, "let's wrap this up" and read us an encouraging scripture and commended us on something. He was the educated high school teacher elder.
It was a lesson I never forgot.

Very good.
Thank you Blondie.
(I can sure relate the part about the mother. I was happy and free but it was so painful to see her go through the sadness and fear trying to "save me." One of the main reasons I hate this religion...all the needless pain.)

I was pretty shocked years ago when a friend was DF'd for "disobeying counsel." They can DF for anything. As one elder told me "you win no battles with elders."

What does the Catholic church think of JW?
by Halcon inon a trip to rome a few years ago i asked my friend (who is roman and jw) what the catholic faith thinks of jw.
he simply stated that jw is tolerated by the church but that really not much thought is given to them.
is there an official stance on jw by the catholics?

My first Bible study was Catholic and her mother was furious. She had to carry her literature with her out of the house every day or her mother would destroy the colorful books. Mom felt she would go to hell and was literally scared about that. In fact later, after my student became a JW, she was worried mom would take her kids to be baptized catholic.
Seems that they are tolerant unless a family member converted to JW.
Sounds familiar doesn’t it.
