That was taken from one of the WT's attorneys who apparently estimated IN COURT that the value of the Society's property in Brooklyn alone was worth well over one billion dollars (like 1.3). We've known that for years. Who knows how much else they have around the world, but I'm sure it's not $200 billion.

For 30 years I have received phone calls and cried with heartbroken victims of the Watch Tower Societies. Maybe now they will begin to get their dues.
Scandals and word-of-mouth are far more devastating than just the money verdict. Just look at how the media views the Catholic Church now.
It's the irreversible primal effect on the members and their leaders. Sure they will survive... but so did Christian Science, the Bible Students, Crowleyism, Elizabeth Claire Prophet, Charles Manson, Tony Alamo, the Hare Krishnas, the Black Panthers, and the list goes on. But how many of you know who they are? Ancient sects are irrelevant to mainstream society. There is a psychological dominoe effect among the members, which can happen very quickly under certain circumstances, regardless if they last another 50 years with even half a million members.
You can bet a rep. from every high-control religion in the wortld will be a friend of the court in this appeal.

By order of the Superior Court of the State of California - County of Alameda (see documents below), until the Watch Tower's appeal, which won't begin until August 13th and will take up to TWO YEARS to settle due to due process of law, has forbidden the Watch Tower to sell any more of its $1 BILLION in assets in the Borough of Brooklyn until the appeals case is finished, to assure they won't shelter their monies in the light of this most huge and devastating sexual abuse scandal ever to hit the Watch Tower Society, and perhaps any other single-victim lawsuit.
The several Watchtower attorneys must have shite in their pants yesterday evening. The HUGE corporate assets in the Watch Tower Society, centered in real estate (largely in Brooklyn), cannot sell any of their properties until the case is settled. This will likely take up to TWO YEARS.
My guess is that this may be the final canonball that will sink the Watch Tower's plans to recover from their slump permanently. This may be the biggest news since the beginnings of Charles Taze Russell, and may bring them to their knees.
We are now not just talking about the likelihood of the Watch Tower losing $28 million (damages split among the Watch Tower, congregation leaders, and the perpetrator of the crimes), but we are talking about the equivalent of freezing most of Iran's bank accounts, and it cannot be settled for at least two years.
What does that mean? A fate worse than death to the Watch Tower. Their reputation, their future plans of recovery and building huge facilities in upstate New York that can be easily converted to secular property and eventually sold for a large profit, will most likely all BE PUT ON HOLD FOR TWO YEARS.
A lot can happen in two years. Their greatest fear, that of sectarian splits, is in my opinion, about to begin.
There are many good men and women in the Watchtower organization - millions of them - and a lot of them are elders.
Many will no longer want to be disgraced by calling themselves a Jehovah's Witness. Many will be furious that they suddenly open up their eyes to all the things that have been going on this last year.... from the warnings about listening to certain "anointed ones" drawing the flock away, to giving all their allegiance to the Governing Body and no one else, and the restrictions and dangerous legal position they are putting upon their thousands of elders this last two years.
Now that they are being encouraged to get their "spiritual food" FREE on the internet (cutting printing costs), this is perfect timing. Imagine all the older JWs who have just gone out and bought computers that will be exposed to this, like it or not. Obviously, this will slow down EVERYTHING from field service to vital services.Since the Watch Tower is almost certainly having major cash flow problems by the observation of their attempts to obtain money from the publishers via credit cards, cutting back on services, cutting magazine circulation practically in half, shutting down branches, consolidating ASSEMBLIES and former "necessary" services, eliminating meetings, dropping the Gilead School, ejecting older volunteer couples who have worked at Bethel for years (to avoid paying out so much cash), and engineering ways to completely own all Kingdom Halls in the world outright, this will be a major blow to almost every move they have planned to avoid the current slump they are in. The money may simply be about to DRY UP.
It is their WORST NIGHTMARE COME TRUE.
One victim of their collectively abusive system, Candace Conti and her mother Kathleen, with the aid of attorney Rick Simons, paralegal Kelly (as well as the groundbreaking work of Bill Bowen and the further long-term investigations and the hard work and monies spent by our own Barbara Anderson... and the attorneys who have worked on the previous cases including Kerry Louderback Wood and others, has caused the greatest monetary blow to the Watchtower in its history.

Why do only xian religions have soo many pedo problems ?
by mP inim not trying to poke fun at any particular religion or show favouritism, but im having a hard time recalling similar repeated scandals in non xian religions.
i cant recall hearing of pedo scandals in islam or buddism.
yes i know that islam perpetrates many other evils like so call honour killings but buddhism seems to be rarely in the news for similar evils ?

What is reported means very little in getting an acuurate overall picture. I have talked with health and medical personnel that tell me Islam has a much higher rate of child sodomy and abuse sexually. But you'll see that in the news, like NEVER.
The more fundamentalist a people are, the more of a righteous guise they must create to obfuscate the primal side of their nature. That means the primal side of their human nature needs an outlet, but it has to be concealed to maintain that look. The more radical a culture is, by the same amount their purported need for sex and primal fulfillment will be. The whole Christian TV scandals of a few years back illustrated this.
I highly recommend this book... read it years ago, and it is simple and life-changing. Kinda matches C.S. Lewis ideas about sin actually, though it is not a Christian book. Get it!!
You can't hide the "devil" behind your coattails, but you can let him out to play once in awhile (on a leash). Basically, it hints at understanding your human nature and learning to control it so you don't act weird and perverted, or overly chartismatic. Those are the danger signs. That's why fundys often creep me out... I can see through the thin veneer of holiness by watching them and how they talk (ignore what they say).

Does anyone know where, or what happened to Fred and April Fredean? They where our old circuit overseers in Chicago in the sixties and I was friends when I was at bethel with them.

When I was at Bethel Fred was assigned to be the floor overseer of building 2 floor 6 at the factory. According to Tom Cabeen he designed some very good bindery equipment, and then "Black Friday" (or was it Thursday?) came and 3 former Circuit Overseers who had come to Bethel and got together and suggested some changes at Bethel, including Fred Fredean, Fred Maes and another guy. Knorr and Larson were not happy. Knorr's punishment to Fredean was to run his own machines like a bindery boy for a long time.
Bering somewhat self-righteous at the time (1977-1978), listening to Fred's daily diatribes against the WT leadership bothered me a lot... but I just mostly ignored him. We were both Bethel elders.
Then came the Franz incident. Fred Fredean made a 180 degree turn, and so did I. He became the SR (self-righteous), waiting to turn in the apostates, and I and Tom and Jim Petrie used to crack up over his sudden change of heart (or a new brown-nose opportunity). I felt he was a coward, like Swingle turned out to be.
It's amazing how so many of us changed at that time from one side to the other.
There are many WT elders just chomping at the bit to "seize the day," and quite a few of them are at Bethel. Sectarianism lies at the door.
